Anyone played either or both of these courses?

I'm arranging a trip in September and the Sunday slot is between these two, and would appreciate anyones views on which course to go for. They both look good and cost roughly the same, so some insider knowledge would be appreciated

Played both, was a member at both in the last 10 years too.
Aberdour will always win for me. Pitreavie is a nice track but Aberdour's setting right by the water and the two par 3 start just make it more special.
Pitreavie has a long par 5 to start and then nothing worth noting until the 9th where you play over a deep gully.
Aberdour has the 1st, an elevated par 3 into a walled corner then the 2nd, a par 3 playing over a bay and the 8th which runs parallel to the beach.
Pitreavie copes better with the elements IMO but September should see excellent condition at both which again would elevate Aberdour.

Hope that helps

OOO choices! Pitreavie - interesting holes (altho there is a touch of deja vu on a couple of them going over the hill (4 and 14th seem very similar to me!). its got a burn, water, trees and nice greens. its tricky enough to keep the low hcappers interested.

Aberdour - two of the best opening holes EVER! both par 3s and both tricky and tangling with the forth! Back 9 is a bit dull and agricultural. Views are stunning. Greens good. Last played it in November and they were digging up 3-5 holes to redo them - not sure if they were redesigning or just doing drainage.

If i could only pick one - then I would go for Pitreavie. Enjoy ;)

Yep, my vote would be for Pitreavie too. Aberdour is all about the opening two holes, but it's a bit meh after that. Pitreavie is a good layout and was in great condition when I played it last year.

This was my problem with Pitreavie and why I gave up my membership despite it being the most convenient location for me (close to home and work).
11th and 18th play similar, 5th and 16th...
And trouble with the "locals" was another reason but that's a discussion for another day.

Better class of local in Aberdour ;)

Indeed Heidi, they don't call the waterfront "millionaires row" for nowt ;)
You also don't get people walking over and proclaiming "we don't like visitors here" on the 12th tee when my bag tag was clearly on display... Some people eh!?

Hahahahaha - seriously! weirdos!
Still OP - they are both great courses - wouldnt be a bad thing to just toss a coin! ;)

We're staying in Kirkcaldy, and if I remember last year on the Perth trip, Muckhart wouldn't book visiting groups in more than 1 week in advance (that could be complete bollox)

I'm not familiar with that rule Wheyayeman.
If you are in Kirkcaldy have you considered Charlton or Kirkcaldy GC as well, KGC is a nice track.
Balbirnie in Markinch is also a stunning wee place (got married there a couple of years ago and started the wedding day with a round in the morning :D)
