Have been suffering with lower back pain on and off for a few weeks but it's been bad last couple of days.

Starting to think it might be golf-related. I actually grunted in a pain a few times while swinging a club today.

Anyone had this? Any good pre/post round stretches that might help?

I was suffering from a bad back due to work and was told golf would help. Being me, I tried for months to rip the face off the ball which didn't help.

I was eventually noticed at the driving range by an old timer who heard the grunting and he made me sit down holding either end of my 9 iron and make a v shape by spreading my legs. He then got me to touch my opposite foot with my hand and repeat this for 4 sets of 10 (2 eIther side)

He then got me to slow my swing down and club up so I didn't have to put as much effort in.

I regularly bump into him at the range and buy him a whisky afterwards

Oooooh nooo,feel for ya mate..

Suffered for about last 10yrs on n off and is not funny at all when it goes.....

I use to do some light stretching of the hamstrings which did help but not a cure before and during the round..
Now i do alot more core exercises which has helped greatly but still suffer with slight ache now n again.

Hope ya mend soon:thup:

I had 2 years of lower back pain which caused me to shorten my backswing considerably. I went to a oesteopath and he popped things back in place and gave me a 30 minute stretching routine to do morning and night. Of course I didn't stick to these stretching sessions and the back pain returned. I had to find a compromise because I don't have the discipline or urge to spend an hour every day stretching.

For the last two years I have adopted a hamstring stretching exercise that takes 1-2 minutes every morning of life and my lower back pain has disappeared.

Karen i have just been diagnosed with patella femoral pain syndrome. I need to use a knee brace when golfing just now. I will need to get some physiotherapy. And its all down to playing lots of golf. Just listen to your body, only you know what its telling you. Take a week or two away from playing. Best of luck. xx

lower back pain? get some ice on it petal
i have a fab sports massage lady - i can give you her details if you like!

i Had a slipped disk last year and didn't rest it, played a couple of times. i got worse then had a back spasm and could not even move for 3 weeks.

Doctor told me to rest, but a friend who's a sports physio, who had history of a bad back for 20 years told me, Ice and stretching, worked wonders.
