This is such a simple tip and I am sure most of you already do this but I didn't !!

When addressing the ball with my irons I had maybe a 1" gap from the club face to the ball

Result often was I hit 1" behind the ball !

Today I made sure at address my club face was nearly touching the ball and then played the shot

Result was better contact, more crisp and gain in distance

Such a simple tip but has helped me and seems so obvious now !

My mate pointed this out to me two days ago. I would hold the club 2 inches or so behind then hit the turf way before. Never even give it a second thought and after two days practise the results have been incredible. Cant believe I have never thought about it like this!

I usually have the club about an inch behind the ball, any closer and you risk moving it.

It depends on the lie.. fairway its right up within a cm. in the rough it could be much further back.

address the ball, think "if I shank this at least it's going to be the biggest shank ever so I can post how far right it went on the GM forum" and swing, hard....
