A sign of the times

Definitely a sign of the times and us old gits just don't get it.

Many years ago I got my daughter a phone contract with unlimited free texts (a very rare thing at the time) she run up a £250 bill one month talking to a mate when she got in having just spent 3 hours with her. I went ballistic because she did not use the texts to chat.

Oh bless Jim ave been there with that one. Obviously it wasn't her fault.

In our clubhouse you can text or go on-line but not make or receive calls. Since my father in law had a heart attack on the course I always have my phone with me!

Goldfish!!

Average attention span of a goldfish.....8 seconds.
Average attention span of a human with a smart phone..... 6 seconds.

Like I said, goldfish:)

Honolulu has banned texting while crossing the road.....

With the number of people in their phones either getting hit or nearly getting hit by cars while crossing roads at a really quite alarming rate, with the advent of silent electric cars around the corner it sounds like a way of enforcing Darwinism...

Bearing in mind that a vast quantity of what goes across airwaves via our mobiles is complete rubbish or unnecessary to me it's survival of the smartest!

Pieman almost made the link I was hinting at.
We've all seen the initiatives to get kids into golf and as we all know kids love their phones.
So what happens in your clubhouse if a youngster pulls out a phone?

Given that we've got wifi in the clubhouse (and l doubt we're unusual) l suspect it's unlikely that it's there simply so we can be told not to use it. :).

Texting & internet is fine but we're still expected to go outside to make calls - which l think is about right.

How many clubs still don't allow it? Don't know, but probably too many

Same with my club, which is pretty relaxed on all its clubhouse rules. As such we're now getting wives/husbands/partners and kids coming up after competitions - makes for a great atmosphere in the clubhouse.
