For those of you that wear glasses in every day life do you still wear them when playing golf or do you wear contacts?

I've worn glasses all my life and never tried contacts but with me recently ditching my "fair weather golfer" title I'm looking at alternatives for playing golf.

Any other sport I play I wear my glasses but generally its indoor sports. Got caught in the rain on the course last week which has got me considering getting some contacts for golf. So, what do the rest of you wear for seeing on the course?

I have been wearing contacts now for 38 years. I originally started wearing them for squash with the added bonus for the infrequent rounds of golf I played at the time. I would not be without them now and feel really sorry for anyone who has to play golf in glasses in the conditions we have had recently. You will soon get over the squeamishness of poking your finger in your own eye and I guarantee you won't regret switching.

Started wearing contacts 2 years ago for golf after 10 years of glasses. The difference was amazing, the putts were easier to read and playing in the rain was no problem anymore. Wearing a cap doesn't cut it when the rain on your course generally comes in horizontal! Wearing them gives a real sense of freedom on the course. I would go the whole hog and have laser treatment now but I'm scared it'll go wrong (irrational I know!).

I play wearing glasses and if it rains, I just put a cap on.

Me too.

I used to wear contact lenses, but don't let anyone fool you into thinking you can just chuck a pair in and off you go. The only people who can do this are regular wearers.

I'll put in contacts for swimming or Alton Towers, but the vision is never good enough for Golf. It's not about the clarity, but the difference in the way your eyes focus with lenses.

Go into a high street optician and they'll tell you you can, but try it before you buy a job lot or sign up for a plan. I can't, and I wore contact lenses solidly for 15 years.

Going to get new glasses next month so will need to ask about contact lenses. See if I'm able to cope with putting them in or not. I guess a bit of practise and I'd be sorted. Might be useful for 5 - a - side too, might be able to avoid the constant repair bills for my glasses haha :p

My sister got laser eye surgery last week (although at the last minute they decided to scalpel off some of her eye instead of the last for all of it. Do not fancy that one!) and I considered checking out the cost etc but to be honest I quite like my glasses. They don't bother me in any other area of life except golf into the wind on a rainy day.

Never been any good at contacts. To be fair not good with fiddling with my eyes anyway so its always been a deterrent. I tend to just stick the cap on and pull it down low. Usually have a dry hankie to clean them if they get too wet and struggle on

Laser treatment is the way forward. I wore glasses since I was 20'ish and had the laser treatmet about 8 years ago and my long vision is still fantastic. Yes, I do wear glasses for reading but I buy 10 pairs a time at the £1 shop, leave them all over the place so there's always a pair to hand.

I wear my bin lids for everything. do have contacts but never tried them for golf, just when out on the lash :)

always remember to take them out afterwards.... its bloody painful if you fall aslepp with the buggers in

I wear glasses and wear a hat pretty much every time I play golf anyway. Never really had a major issue weather wise and as homer said just keep a hanky in my pocket. On the other hand I also have contacts! You soon get used to the poking your eyes! Rarely wear them on the course, last couple of times one fell out as my eyes dry very quickly and have to add drops in at regular intervals which just gets annoying. Strangely I wear them when skiing with no problem at all!! Also can suffer from hay fever which means I ant wear them in most of the summer as my eyes get too irritated.

same as you Evesdad with the dry eyes, pain in the backside if I forget my drops and havent got glasses as backup.... would get laser treatment but am too blind :D

With middle'aged eyes, I used to wear varifocals most of the time, but didn't feel I needed them for golf. Could see the ball well enough in distance and for putting.
Then got to stage where I could fill in card, but couldn't see what I had written, so had to get glasses out when checking scores.
Then couldn't even manage to fill in score in correct box!
Varifocals are weird for golf, esp when putting .

So I started wearing diposable contacts for golf only - different contacts in each eye, one long for distance, one short for reading.
would only use them for golf, or maybe going out in evening when I didn't want to wear glasses or wanted to put eye makeup on.

Earlier this year i had laser correction to the same prescription as contacts, one long one short.
Doesn't suit everyone, but I'm really happy with result.

I used to wear glasses all day every day but never liked them for sport and especially for golf. Never liked the change in focus out of the corner of my eye i.e. out the side of my glasses. I then got one day lenses just for sport and loved them. I now wear monthly disposables all the time and I can't fault them. I never have a problem with them drying out either.

Rgdave I'm curious why you have focus problems? Surely any focus problem that occurs from looking through contact lenses would also be present when using glasses lenses?

Wear glasses for work etc but always wear contacts for golfing.

I use Daysoft contacts. Order them over the web, they are the best ones I've tried and don't dry up nearly as bad as the Acuvue ones I used to get from Boots. They are very cheap aswell, about £5 per box.

My response was badly worded! I have worn glasses for 20 years but only took up golf 12 years ago and played in glasses for 10 years before switching to contacts.
I have not found any drying issues and like others have commented it gets me away from having the ball under my glasses at address and the focus changing. I have a bad astigmatism and have to wear the orientating lenses but have suffered no problems blinking doesn't solve!
