I'm playing in a society comp on Thursday. The serious comp is in the afternoon, but the morning nine hole warm up gives each player the above three jokers to play. I've been giving it some thought as to when best to use them, but I'd be interested in your thoughts before I share.

What do you think?

If you can use bits of the length of the string giving you multiple chances of relief I would use it to improve your lie or save it up for a nice birdie putt :D

Kick out of the rough or from under a bush etc and throw out of a bunker.

That sucks, would be much more interesting if you could use it a bit at a time.

I have played a few where you are given a 6 foot piece of string and some scissors! Was a good game that was!

I think the throw from the greenside bunker is the most useful - turns a poor approach hopefully into a birdie putt.

I think the point will be to ensure each is used to make sure a point that wouldn't have otherwise been gained is added to the score.

There is a short par 4 (not sure of the index) - I'm tempted to use the throw and the piece of string to try and make a hole in 1 on a par 4 where I get a shot - but it would probably cost me a huge round of drinks!

Should be fun anyway.

From what I know its against the spirit of the game to use the improvements to get a hole in one.
