Saw the above registration on a white Bentley in Solihull this afternoon.

Now I am normally indifferent towards perdonalised plates but I must admit that,as a golfer, I did find this quite impressive.

Unlike so many others it requires no explanation.

Pre Dvla local councils issued car regs and green log books which were stamped when you taxed your car, the prefix for East Lothian was SS, there's still quite a few cars running around here with SS on their plates. SS1 and SS5 were owned by two spinster sisters who lived in a huge house in Haddington, one of them taught at the local school and used to tell the story of her sister (SS1) being contacted by lawyers for the singer Sandi Shaw to sell the plate, the offer being £100k, a huge amount in those days, they got the rather curt reply 'Sandy Who' ?

Alliss's car with said number plate was quite often seen in our club car park as he was a close friend of a former captain and president.

I used to look at his car and think how he hadn't done too badly for himself considering he, by his own admission, was a lousy putter.

@Starter all relative though. Perhaps lousy for the absolute elite pro golfer 😄 but by regular pro standards, he must have been fairly decent still. A quick google, 20 pro tournaments won, 5 top 10 finishes in The Open. A bit of self depreciation doesn't go amiss though

6 OLF would be a brilliant number plate.

The same number plate with the 6 altered to look like a G should get you thrown in the clink
The figure had not been altered but there are different fonts for numerals as well as for letters.

Sorry to have to tell you but even if it had amended it would not be an imprisonable offence.

Not sure what you mean by this. There is one legal number plate font.

I know you won't get sent to prison, it's hyperbole. Misrepresented plates are the work of massive chavs and should be hit with fines and points

I stand corrected on the font.

However, on the issue of punishment for those who may use "misrepresented" plates I cannot share your level of concern.

It is not something I would personally do but in the overall scheme of things it is rather insignificant and largely harmless.

ANPR cameras don't seem to have any difficulty with them.
