Hello chaps
Just need some help for a beginner please.
Bought a set of clubs from American Golf.
All Callaway stuff.

Can you guys tell me when and why I would use my 5 iron or 5 wood and what is the distance difference ?

Thanks.

It will probably vary for most, either can be used off the tee or ground, biggest difference will be loft and distance, my 5 Wood is 18 degrees and my 5 Iron 27 degrees, normally avg about 195-205yds with my 5 wood and 165-175 with my 5 Iron.

My 5i is 23deg & a good hit goes about 180 give or take.
5w 18 deg & goes about 210.

Just find out your distances & pick the club to suit.
Or the club that gives you the least risk.
I’m much more confident with a 5i.

I could really do with a hybrid to sit between them, but I can’t hit hybrids 😣

Which is better in the rough and on fairway please ?
It’s not a straight comparison or a straight forward answer, you can get a good or bad lie on both, distance to the green, any obstructions or hazards you need to carry etc, you hit the ball differently with both clubs.

I am confused about one thing.
My
5 wood is 18deg.
4 wood is 22 deg.
3 wood is 19deg.
But the 5 wood Big Bertha has a way bigger head than the 3 and 4 hybrids.
Are hybrids also called woods ?

They’re more like an iron.
Suppose to be easier to hit than a long iron.

No, hybrids are hybrids, some people mistakenly call'em woods, 3-woods are generally 14-16°, 3-hybrids are generally 17-19°, 4-hybrids are generally 20-22°, all depends on the manufacturers interpretation...

Thanks I’m loving it.
Playing 9 holes only currently.
Going round in anything from 45 to 55.
Varies daily.
Usually get a par each game.
Bunking off work a lot to play.
So damn addictive.

It certainly is.
One minute you feel like you’ve cracked it then Bang, back to hitting it like a you’ve never played before 😂.

Not bad scores them.

You’re right there.
Self taught up to now mostly.
Went round the other day in 46 and then 47 for a combined 93 with 3 birdies and a par.
Told my mates.
Not sure they believed it.
Then took a 2 hour lesson from
a pro who changed my stance and grip etc and now I can’t round in less than 55.
Doing so many bad shots.
Confusing time.

This always happens happens when you change something. Stick with it though, trust the pro he can see things you can't. Short term pain for long term gain.

Pain for sure.

I’ve stopped scoring for last 2 weeks.

Other weird thing is I always score best when I play alone.
Worst in 4balls.
Its just too slow.
Kills my momentum and concentration.
Might end up playing alone most of the time.
Quite happy doing it actually.
Very peaceful.

Had a few lessons myself and changed quite alot in my swing, I gotta say going for one lesson a week feels about as infrequent as I could get benefit from, I'm just starting to work back in bad habits by the time I have my lesson.

Man after my own heart, nothing worse than standing around waiting, luckily when I play in a group they're all usually quite quick, never found myself in a slow group yet...
