5 clubs

jammydodger thats nearly what i was thinkin. driver, 18 hybrid (went it comes), 7i, 9i and 52 wedge

Your 18 deg rescue is about a 2-3 iron and your next club is a 7, Thats a big jump.
I would suggest 3wood for tee shots and long 2nd shots
then hybrid then 5, 8 and P wedge
Have you got any balls yet?

I know stuff doesn't always go to plan, but I'd pick the club I'm most comfortable off the tee with, work out what distances you'd expect to have left on each hole, then pick the best 3 clubs to cover those distances (including par 3's). The last club would be what I'm most comfortable around the greens with.

Is there a point to these competitions? To be honest I'd rather play mixed gruesomes......

OMG mixed gruesomes  , At least you'd be playing your next shot from past the ladies tee (hopefully).

Got to say though i've never played one of these daft 3/4/5 club thingys , tbh it's pretty rare that i'll use more than 9/10 clubs in a round anyway. Thinking back on todays round I didnt use my 3w , 5i , 6i or pw

I am with Sammmebee on this, why? We have a mixed 5 club bogey comp. Every year less people sign up for it, and it just wipes out a Saturday that could have been used for the usual swindle.

If I am devoting 4 hours to play golf, I want to play properly, with all my sticks, and in a 4 ball.

We had one of these at our club a few weeks ago.
3 club challenge.
A friend of mine turned up with a 1 iron, 5 iron and a wedge and was firmly told one of the clubs had to be a putter
