30 Golf Milestones

As a mediocre mid handicapper I reckon I've got around 20 of them.
I'm not certain of all but pretty sure I've hit 300 yds in my younger days but only playing downhill on rock hard fairways.

Never been in single figures which also precludes scratch golf realistically shooting under 70 and hitting eighteen greens in regulation, club champion etc.
Never had an albatross either.
If I improve I could envisage single figures but most other things that I haven't done I doubt I will.
Still enjoy the golf and snipe when I hit a good shot which is the important milestone.

I asked the pro today if he ever hit 18 GIR and he said he doesn’t think so and his best round was -11. I know 18 GIR is incredibly hard but I was expecting him to say he’s done it a few times.

I always think that one of the best records ever set in golf was Jin Young Ko in the LPGA Tour Championship (so no easy set up) hitting 63 greens in regulation in a row - an absolutely stunning feat.

Is the club Inconsistent with moments of brilliance?
Haha, probably!

It's because I started calling my AW Amy Winehouse, but I couldn't think of another celebrity with the initials PW. It's surprising how few there are. Paulo Wanchope was the best one I could think of.

I'm surprised how many people have just bypassed this one, and thought I must have done 18 GIR, going down this forum list, approx 1 in three don't list this one as still to do, either they don't realise how difficult it is or they play on courses with absolutely massive greens :D

Maybe they've done it eclectically. ;)

Our 1st hole is 436 yards par-4, usually into a SW wind. I probably hit the the green in regulation around 1 in 20 goes. Chances of doing so are weather dependent mainly.
3rd hole is 453 yards par-4, in the same direction as the first. Similar story.
Hitting both in regulation would be a very rare occurrence indeed. Would need an easterly wind to help. I doubt very much if I have ever played our first 8 holes in regulation.
But in May last year, I did manage to do our first 7 holes with only 8 putts.

Perhaps, "Take fewer than 30 putts in a round" should be a milestone.

Just saw this video coincidentally:

If scratch players are only hitting green with 7 iron 46% of the time - God knows how good you'd have to be to hit every green in a round. Or how lucky.

As a 5-handicapper, I'm sure I'm better than 37%.
But my 7-iron is 36°.
37% applies to my 5-iron maybe - which would be about right, I imagine.

The data would be better applied to distance from pin rather than number on sole of club.

I did the maths on this on page 1 of this thread - you all should pay attention :D

You have to be pretty close to scratch to have a better than 1 in a million chance on any given round. Even a true scratch player is at 3 times in a million. Odds get much worse than that rapidly as you go up the handicap scale.

Barring weird courses with football field sized greens I’d guess that very few golfers of any ability have ever done it.

Maybe they've done it eclectically. ;)
if we were doing things eclectically I have shot 33 under par against a par of 71.

Still think I have not done 18 GIRS there is only one round that I think I might have done it in and that was back in 2015 when I shot my best ever ever round but more likely to have not done it on the hardest hole on the course.

Some of these are pretty stupid. Getting club fitted?

I’d like to add:
31. Getting iron covers
32. Finding a pro v1 in a bucket of range balls
33. Using your ball retriever on consecutive holes
34. Putting off the green
35. Saying “one” when your playing partner knocks the ball off the tee
36. Telling everyone what ball you are playing on the first tee

The first time I played in a comp, one of the chaps told me he was playing a Pro V1 with 2 dots on it..."yeah, nice balls those mate."

No idea why he was telling me.
