30 Golf Milestones

22 in total. Not sure where all this has come from about not telling people on the tee what ball you are playing?
Been told several times by starters to do it. Not talking about Mickey mouse competitions either
As I've mentioned in another thread, if Preferred Lies are in operation a nd you're on the fairway...you can change your ball anyway.....
And you can tell me what ball you have - I'll have forgotten by the 2nd tee.....

The first time I played in a comp, one of the chaps told me he was playing a Pro V1 with 2 dots on it..."yeah, nice balls those mate."

No idea why he was telling me.
If it’s the first time playing with someone I’ve usually forgotten their name halfway down the 1st hole so I’ve no chance of remembering their brand of ball.

I honestly thought that everyone just did it! Would it be against the rules to say something like donnay 2 as a joke and then identify the proper ball later on?
Ive no idea, in Elite comps they can have the one ball rule so may be an issue, but plenty of ams probably get through several types in one hole. 😂😂

So I can tee off with a srixon distance and then change it for a pro v1 for within 100 yards?

It's silly 😅 and they don't do it on the pro tour do they. It's so pointless

Albeit in my very limited experience, but they did do it on the ET events I've caddied on (& when they swapped it out of play)

I think a person has to be so self-absorbed to expect his playing partners to remember what ball he is playing.
I think it's pretty much become a token gesture that people do just for something to say on the 1st tee. 😄 Nobody ever remembers them and will nearly always be asking what it was again the first time they have to look for one.

Surely it’s in case you’re both playing the same ball and you don’t play the wrong ball by mistake.
That probably is useful to be fair. One time in the club champs, one of my group told me they were playing a Bridgestone with a purple circle on it - exactly the same as me. Turned out it was mine, he'd found it in the rough the week before.

Weird , never seen it on the Tele or when sat by the 1st tee when I go in person.

Its just one of a dozen things that took place in the 2 or 3 minutes before teeing off, so not likely to be on TV footage and there's really no announcement to it to attract any spectator attention. Just said when the players were sorting themselves out on the tee. Usually prompted by a player grabbing a ball out of his bag but I remember the starter kicked it off one day

We're talking about different things here TBF.

In the same way that you don't see them eating their breakfast before they tee off. You have been told it happens, accept it
It doesnt happen. I have never once seen or heard on TV or at a live event a pro hold his ball aloft as he stands on the tee and announce to all and sundry he's playing a Titleist with 3 green dots

An actual caddy has said that it does. I take their word on it. I have personally played in scratch competitions where the starter tells you to do it as well. It really isn't something to get worked up over!
