My mate finally agreed to have a go at pitch and putt this afternoon, it took soooo long, ten minute waits on every tee, unbelievable, she did seem to enjoy it though.

Back in the day when my lads were kids... When visiting my old Mum in Norfolk we'd pop along to the pitch and putt in Bure Park... A three hour round would've been a blessing... It was 18 holes though... If thats where I end up in retirement then it would be great to take the grandchildren to for an afternoon out...

I played the Southport pitch and putt a few times back in the late 1960s. My recollection is of a cracking little course with mounds around some greens that made things difficult if your pitch was wonky - do I also recall a few little bunkers? It was down by the funfair if I recollect. Probably my first ever go at golf was there. My uncle lived in Ainsdale (regularly played S&A with clients) and he'd also take me onto the beach at Ainsdale and we'd practice with his irons ('play' clubs) off the hard sand and 'bunker' shots in the sand dunes. Well I had to start somewhere and where better?
