I've only ever played one at our club, and that was 2 clubs and a putter.
I took Driver and 9i. Ended up in the bunker on the first hole, took me 4 shots to get out!!!
Now I'd go 5 wood and probably 50 deg wedge, but if I had the choice of three, off the ladies, it would still be 5 wood, then maybe 8i and 54 deg wedge.

Our club had a similar competition 3 clubs.
A friend selected 18 deg rescue, 7 iron, wedge and wanted to putt with the rescue.
He was told he MUST have a putter as one of the clubs.
He still won it with 17 pts (9 holes)

Hell nooo...you need some length off the tee nes-ce-pas ?
Probs need some sort of fairway/rescue plus 7/8 iron , depending on the distance you expect to end up with left after the majority of your tee shots

After the third attempt I was tempted to switch to the putter!!!!

In our roll-up when its frosted over we use 3 clubs (including a putter) for the temporary greens. I normally take driver, wedge and a putter because in the frost the driver goes for miles. Par 3's are interesting mind

We've got one in early Dec. 3 club only. 3 wood, 7iron and gap wedge. I will be putting with the wedge.

we had one a few weeks and had a very low entry compared to the usual Saturdays competition. Quite a few of us in fact opted to play in a Stableford hurriedly organised the week before as a better option. I think because it was after the clocks changed and there was no evening golf working chaps preferred a usual knock rather than not getting a proper round for 2 weeks.I've never played one because I think that I might get a better score than with a full set and be very embarassed.

Snap. Our three club challenge is on sat. I'm taking 4i, 9i and putter. The putter is optional, apparently a few guys last year took a driver instead of the putter and used that on the greens.
