3 Brits.... on the red button

Westy never really does well from the word go, in the majority of the majors he is in the +figures to start but then come Sunday he is always in the mix :)

Didn't see much of them as it was too late but from what I did see Westy's putting still looks a bit dodgy and I'd be surprised if it holds up under prssure if he is in the mix on Sunday. Real shame as I would love him to win it.

Interesting that the Course can punish even a player as accurate and controlled as Luke. See he only hit 6 out of 14 fairways and 9 GIR. Westy was the same. Not what you need in a US Open. Rory only hit 6 GIR. That looks like my stats . Tiger hit 10 fairways and 11 GIR.

The FIR\GIR stats are a bit of a joke this week. The fairways are so narrow and slope so much that some of them are practically impossible to hold even with a good shot. On an normal course, Tiger probably been 100% in FIR and not far off for GIR.

Shame that the top 3 players had a bad start, think they got the bad end of the draw all the commentators have been saying the frist 6 holes are the hardest on the course and the greens drying out, tiger gets a early start and starts on the 9th with a chance to get of to a good start yes he did play well, have not checked it out full but seems that the people that saterd on the 9th are at the top of the leaderboard well done to Rose and Macdowell for there rounds think they started on the 9th, as they say you cant not win it on the frist day but can play yourself out of it

Yeah your right.

The slopes on those fairways are wicked plus the fact they are so narrow. Usually US Open is all about fairways and greens but I just had a quick look at Thompson's stats and they weren't much better but he only had 22 putts. Is it going to be a case of who gets up and down the most? Will be a fascinating weekend but as others have said it isn't really fun to watch.

Donald is a short game Master so is McIlroy so they should be doing well.

I think its great fun to watch the worlds best manufacture shots, someone shot 4 under remember, he hit irons to fairways and had a good short game...........

Stayed up to 12:30 watching it, liked the concept especially the lack of Ads that I had to watch. Enjoyed the chat they had with the USGA official on how they setup the course.

Had to drive ipswich first thing so decided I had seen enough after all 3 of them were on +4.

Unfortunately seems to be a recurring theme of Westwood/Donald playing themselves out of contention on the first day of a major. No doubt they will string together a few decent rounds now and would back them both to finish top 10.

Will be interesting to see how they react to a more receptive (hopefully) course this morning. Luke and Rory need to play lights out to stand a chance. Lee actually played very well yesterday other than the 1st 3 holes. 3 over after 3 (2 over after the 1st) and shot level par the rest of the round. Could be a different story with receptive greens and starting on the 9th today. Hope so.

It was painful to watch Luke struggle as badly as he did last night though.
