220 yards with a 6 iron

I had 235 into our 13th the other day and pitched a 4 iron about 10ft from the pin :) So I carried my 4 iron 235 on quite a cold day, doesnt mean I can normally lol. Was it downhill? Yep, was it downwind? Yep, did I go hard at it? Yep

Large distance claims can be true, but they are almost always not "normal" conditions or regular occurences

Aha a comment that makes sense!!

I love these boasting threads. My little tinkle is 12 inches long

People are prone to exaggeration, fact.

Here's a FACT for you our 3rd holes is 215 yards par he hit 6 iron middle of the green. He's 6ft 3 plays DG X100 shafts so there is a bit of power there. He's a 4 handicapper but his short game and putting are poor but he just flat out rips it.

You say he hit a 6 iron to the middle of the green, was this just once or all time? Also if he his getting those distances and hitting the middle of the green his putting really must suck because he will be on every green at least in regulation or below. He should have a birdie chance at every hole surely?

Freak shots happen, I can name three of mine.

5 iron 220 yards up hill but with a strong following wind, carried it right over a bunker at 210 yards and it landed in the rough, could have been further if it had landed on the fairway.

Hit a driver nearly 290 yards into a slight headwind. It just went off like a rocket and rolled forever down a rock hard fairway.

Driver downhill, down wind onto a dry rock hard fairway, ended up at 374 yards confirmed by GPS.

Not likely to do any of those ever again unless both conditions and swing combine at just the right time on just the right day!

I've no reason to spin crap like some on hear its a fact and yes his putting is shocking.

With the 3rd hole at your track being named "Gully"

Does it play down hill?

Last time I went around my old course, I was with a guy who hit 9-iron 190! Then hit a 7 past the flag on a 215 Par 3! On a still day!

Doesn't hit Driver very long - for fear of losing it with a wayward swing - and hasn't got a clue about the short game, as absolutely no finesse. Ex Scotland A Rugby player (Prop turned Flanker, or maybe the other way around) so huge upper body strength and quite tall without being massive - like a world class Power-lifter who also plays and his muscles actually restrict his golf-swing badly.

Mickelson hit his 6 iron 209 at Augusta from the pine straw on the 13th when he won in 2010. More than possible for someone to hit a 6 iron 220. Don't know why so many people get their knickers in a twist about someone who can hit the ball a long way every now and again. If this guy has a good short game then he could be dangerous

I did play in Canada with a relation who played Ice Hockey and albeit it was 25* I was hitting 8 iron around 150-155 he was past me with a wedge, horrible swing but popye upper body.
Flip side was 6 practice swings with EVERY chip.......then duff it

205 yards (tee dependant) to the front, and 24 yards deep. Impresive shot with a 6 iron that

We normally just play from the whites as we play our comps from there, he is a big hitter ,we have a few guys in our squad all Cat 1 golfers who give it a rip but he is the longest , i don't see what everyones problem is with it, you do actually get guys that can hit the ball along way and he is one of them, he's a big lad lad with a high swing speed nowt wrong with that.

One of those things Steve, "I cant do it so noone can".
You only have to watch the long drive competitions, none of them could make it on tour as an actual golfer. It might as well be a caber they are throwing.
