2016 Goals

Break 90 (current PB this season is 90)
Handicap down to 18 (currently off 20.6)
Have fun (currently having lots of fun)

Not great progress...
Still trying to break 90
Handicap up a shot!
Still having fun though

So 33% success on goals and more than three months still to go on nailing the other two

Join the Club - we've got Jackets!

One goal will be to string a few rounds together without a 3 week gap!
Can't seem to play more than 2/3 times before a layoff caused by work, weather or holidays...

Goal achieved - playing 4th round this week today...✔👍⛳

Had a very stop start year due in main to illness and home stuff. A shame as it was starting to come together in March and the winter work was slotting into place before I wasn't too clever. On the plus side the short game has continued to improve and I'm starting to feel totally confident on and around the green

I had a lesson on Tuesday and the pro and I both agreed it has been a frustrating year and a bit of a write off. Plans in place for the Winter, mainly on improving FIR and especially GIR, as well as a bit on the mental side and clearing the head on the course

Get a handicap
Get that handicap down to sub-18
Shoot a sub-80 round
Complete 18 holes without a three putt

If I'd avoided three-putts on my last round I'd have shot 78, so really they go hand in hand for me. Be great if I could manage all four.

Done the first two, got a handicap of 15, not managed the second two yet, although I only had one three-putt yesterday.

Same as last year and every year since I started playing again:
1) Play as much as possible.
2) Enjoy myself.
3) Let scores, handicaps and results take care of themselves.

All my goals achieved again this year, and no doubt my goals will be the same again next year.

The only goal I mentioned in the thread was to stop making stupid shot choices.

I'm a lot better at it now but still the odd one when I can't accept throwing a shot away just to get back in position.

Over all a good season for me:

Handicap lowered.
New comp PB.
Won 1 medal and a few placed efforts.

I didn't get down to single figures, but got a bit closer and regained my Cat 2 status. Won a couple of competitions and a society day, with several 2nd or 3rd places. :)

Get a short game. That's what stands between me and Cat 1. Putting has improved but chipping is still garbage. That's the only thing I'm going to practise this year.

It would also be nice to win a matchplay match of some description. Never won one in 5 years

Halfway to getting a short game. It has improved significantly but there's still a lot of bad stuff to unwind. Haven't played enough strokeplay golf to get the h/c down either.

Smashed the matchplay target, though - playing the semi-final of the summer singles later today :)

Do we have positives to report from today?

New comp PB? Modesty at its best! Shout it from the rooftops mate, I certainly would be!

Yep. Shook hands on 13 when my opponent conceded the match.

All square through 9, then I made 4 straight pars while he 3 putted twice, then missed a 4 footer for par at 12. He missed a 6 footer for par at 13 to gift me another hole and, knowing I was getting a shot at 14, he jacked it in.

So, having never won a matchplay tie before this year, I'm now in the final of the singles. Just the short game to nail down now...

Wanted to get down below 18, had 16 in my mind, and just enjoy playing.

Now sat @ 19.4 and have barely hit a buffer all year.

Have enjoyed playing though, work has just got in the way.

Break 90 in a recorded round

Never had broke 110 before 2016, only been playing for about 13 months now. 3 more months hoping!

After a 4 year break from playing golf after turning 18 I re-joined the Golf club last year and my main goal was to get back to my old handicap which was 6. I did not quite get there but I'm now sitting at 7.2 which I can't be too unhappy about. Next year I am hoping to get to category 1.
