2016 Goals

Just a couple this year.

Get to Cat 2 - Currently at 14.9
Win a monthly club comp - too many second places last year

Another was to win a board comp - Achieved this in the winter pairs knockout

Break 90 (current PB this season is 90)
Handicap down to 18 (currently off 20.6)
Have fun (currently having lots of fun)

I'd say my wedge play is improving but in general just 'trying' to play smarter golf and avoiding big mistakes. If I don't lose a ball during a round I very rarely shoot more than 1 or 2 over.

Need to hole more putts too

Just curios as that's the way I'm going.
I need so see the patterns in my game and figure out where I can maximise my practice. My swing isn't going to get worse. I've stopped all the analysing last year. It's all about scoring now and minimizing mistakes.

Get a short game. That's what stands between me and Cat 1. Putting has improved but chipping is still garbage. That's the only thing I'm going to practise this year.

It would also be nice to win a matchplay match of some description. Never won one in 5 years

Find out where I left my (usually) strong chipping game. My FIR, with the new driver, is up from +50% to +80%, but my skill around the green has deserted me.

4 things this year for me:

Handicap down to 12.
Break 90 in a comp.
break 85 casual round.
Win two comps.

Tried to go realistic but challenging to keep me going throughout the year.

Wouldn't a handicap of 12 mean that you have to break 84 not just once but more or less regularly, though? (Not sure how the UK handicap system works ... do casual round count towards it, like they do in the US? In Germany only competition and rounds specifically registered beforehand count towards it ... so here a handicap of 12 would mean you break 84 in competitions frequently, assuming a par 72 course with a course rating (SSS) of 72).

That's not to criticize your goals in anyway or saying it can't be done. It's more that it never ceases to amaze me how much lower the UK handicaps are on average compared to the German ones. So I am trying to establish if we really are all crappy golfers (which could be, because there are less opportunites here to start golf as a junior and most people first come in contact with the game when they are already middle aged and slower to learn) or if the handicap regulations are harder.

No, the scores must be returned in a competition. his goals seem to have a domino effect. If he achieves one, the others fall also. He pretty much has to achieve even the non comp one if he is to be successful overall.

Said it before but this is my year....new role at work gives me more opps to play (more working from home)

1. Play more to get value from membership
2. Practice, Practice
3. Get cut! been stuck at 19-20 for ages - target 1 = 18 stretch target = 16
4. Qualify for our end of year "Masters" which requires winning any comp

I'd like to play more courses this year so if you know any parkland hidden gems.........:)

I don't think such a thing exists Bob. If you'd said links or heathland however...... ;)

The 12 handicap is just the overall goal for the season, which will come about as a result of achieving the others, like a domino effect as gary says. I've just picked so far the scores I have yet to break in both comps and a casual round. Once I have achieved these then I will lower them as the year goes along.

I realise that in order to get the handicap down I need to be shooting lower more consistently. I was consistent somewhat last year shooting around the 90-95 bracket. So with the work I have done on my swing in order to be more consistent hopefully I will be able to shift that down to being consistent around the 85-90 bracket. And once I start doing that then the mental part of knowing I can achieve these score will help down the stretch of the season.

Will be hard pressed to get anywhere near last season's achievements, but looking/hoping to get into the single figure brigade.

However, recent form over the past couple of weeks make me think I'll do well to stay where I am. ;)

I'll go with this as well, break 100 will do for me:(

This.

But for every round. I'm bored of scoring in triple figures.

To put it another way: I aim to stop being so 5h1t.

I ought to be able to do it! My all-time eclectic best score at my home course is 66 (par is 69). More meaningfully is that my best score is 98 at that course (Beckenham Place Park), and 94 overall (Falconwood).

my goal for 2016 is simply get back out on the course as im still recovering from injury from last august.
its getting closer as i have been to the range a couple of times and hitting it half decent . just need to be able to walk a few more than 50yds at a time .

Remembering how to score on Par 5s would be a good start.
My gross score on our par 5s from April to October last year was 4.89........struggling to par them at the moment.....
It'll come from getting some consistency from the tee - my Achilles Heel for 20 years....
