2 to 12 in 5 years & proud of it..WOW!

I have played with guys who have openly admitted to 'cheating' to keep their handicaps high. One of them told me they did it to make a team that you have to have a handicap of 10 or over. I also know one (10 handicap) who recently tore up his card on the 18th fairway because he knew he was going to get cut, he said when he got in that he realised he had 15 clubs in his bag and knew he would be disqualified, he later admitted to me that one of the guys he played with put one of his clubs into his bag. I was bewildered by this and he was called up in front of the committee and got a slap on the wrist.

It is well known that it happens in our place but no-one seems to do anything about it, our winter league was even cancelled this year due to guys keeping their handicaps high during the summer and then winning the winter league, same guys every year.

It really is a poison in the game and needs stamped out.

The Op does not offer a view as to whether he playes like a 12 or a 2.

That said Clubs out here and in Spain run the USGA system with handicap index and slopes etc. We had a load of people taking the p1ss and so now comps are done with 3/4 difference on the handicap index and not slope adjustments which does give a small advantage to the lower handicaps. This was done for the very reason that the low handicappers were fed up with people of high handicaps winning everything.

Not convinced that is the answer as its just an attempt to work around the issue instead of dealing with it straight on. If clubs took a more aggressive approach then perhaps people would stop doing it.

However blatant handicap fraud will remain as long as there are unscrupulous people with no regard to integrity and honesty.

I was accused (jokingly but pointed) of being a bandit off 12 about six weeks ago. I was winning a lot of money but I had found something in my game that made a step change in scoring....I did enter all my scores into the system and I've come down from 12 (11.6) to 9.1 in about 4 weeks. Which is only 8 games. I knew the way I was playing was not reflected in the handicap and did feel a bit guilty...

The system here allows you to register a game and then enter wither a tournament score or general (bounce) game into the system. This means that all your play is monitored and tracked. The flaw is that the bounce games are voluntary...

Probably plays like a 5/6 tbh was rotten day he hit a 80/85 yard chip to 8 feet into the wind & rain on 10 & was not happy ha
