rather ask you guys than get eth book out - more fun this way7

1) 4 ball batterball matchplay; i play my tee shot from outside the tee box - what is the ruling

2) Medal strokeplay - can a player while waiting on a tee, chip his ball along the ground , or even hit a ball with a driver off the course ?

In answer to your first question, see rule 11-4.

a. Match Play
If a player, when starting a hole, plays a ball from outside the teeing ground, there is no penalty, but the opponent may immediately require the player to cancel the stroke and play a ball from within the teeing ground.

I believe rule 7-2 covers your second question.

A player must not make a practice stroke during play of a hole.
Between the play of two holes a player must not make a practice stroke, except that he may practise putting or chipping on or near:
a. the putting green of the hole last played,
b. any practice putting green, or
c. the teeing ground of the next hole to be played in the round, provided a practice stroke is not made from a hazard and does not unduly delay play (Rule 6-7).
Strokes made in continuing the play of a hole, the result of which has been decided, are not practice strokes.

The way I read the above, chipping is permitted but hitting a driver is not.

Thanks :)

2nd one was what i thought

Couldnt believe my opponents said exactly the same on 1) when i hit a reasonable shot from the wrong place onto the green; they pointed out my error, told me it was no penalty, and i then hit my next shot to 10ft, and only just lipped out ! Would have been harsh if it had dropped for a win after i had had a practice.

So... which is whythe 1 questions are put in that order ...
What stops me hitting a first shot on a Par 3 (matchplay) from outside teh teeing box, findnig out which way the wind is blowing or whether i have the right club, and then playing from the correct tee markers with the right club ?

I guess nothing stops you but notice it says your opponent 'may' require the shot to be retaken. If you stuff it in the cabbage, my guess is they'll just let you carry on.

I would also suspect that if you deliberately knowingly teed up outside the box, then you could be picked up for a serious breach and would lose the hole.
