2 Iron or not 2 iron

Is it not a case of practice Tony? You know that you can hit it well so you just need to work on finding how best to use the club. Perhaps get a lesson purely aimed at getting you to hit your 3 wood well, I am sure your pro mate will be able to help you.

I just dont have any confidence with it. Even when i felt i did hit it well, the restults where not the same as from at the range.

I spoke to the guy who fitted me today and he was brilliant, he has invited me back tommorow (no charge, normally £25) to see whats what. I have told him I want a hybrid or utility club as these are what i can hit.

Said he's going to figure something out so I dont loose to much money, if any!

yea I understand more if its a confidence factor Tony its difficult to get over that. Glad you have kind of got it sorted as well, good to here of another example of good customer service in golf.

I will keep you updated on the progress, I really cant speak highly enough of the guy and the place, they are just excellent.

One more time, Thats Foregolf in Chester!

I really loved my 2iron, it was my favorite club, the only downside was that the (long) shaft was twisted occasionally.

One day, I was on holiday, someone handed me one those hybrids (a TM rescue #3) and I hit it as good as my 2iron but 20 yards further!

As a birthday present I got a hybrid from my wife (Callaway heavenwood #2) and I replaced my 2iron with it. After a couple of month I discovered that I had 2 clubs for the 220 yards range (the Callaway heavenwood #2 and a 4wood). That's why I replaced the 4wood by a heavenwood #4 for the 200 yard shot I used to play with my 2iron. I never regretted my decision because the hybrid works from a varity of lies where the 2iron was unsuited for. The higher trajectory is not much of a problem as our courses over here are generally less wind exposed.

Callaway heavenwood is an astonishing club. My mate plays with a 21 degree and its good for 220 yards in his hands!

Went back today, gave me 100 balls (free) whilst I waited for him to finish a fitment sesion.

Got me back in the bay, on the launch moniter to check everythin was still how it should be and it was. Made a liar of my self by hitting the 3wood 15 yards further than monday.

Explained that it was a different story off the grass so we went out on the grass. Proved my self right by duffing the first 3. After a breif lesson (free) I was getting the same results as from in the bay.

Must admit, still wasn't confident with it but now I know I can use it off the grass I will plod on and stick with it.

Interesting that you got it going on the grass. Was it a technical thing (what did the lesson reveal?). I had a Callaway 3 wood I bought after hitting well on the range but never go it going on the course. Kept plodding away thinking it was me but in the end I couldn't hit it (must be a mental thing) and so traded it in for my Cleveland

Basically on the matt I was whipping it away cleanly ( or so i thought) but on grass the first time i used it, i took a hell of a divot and it went no where. Then the second time i topped it, trying to cure the fat shot.

Then pulled it, then pushed it and basically hit every bad shot in the book. After he pointed out i should be taking a smallish divot and getting me swinging a little better, I creamed the next 10 shots. Happy I put it away. Went back to my local 9 holer and got it going there off the grass.

it's the mats. I've come to the conclusion that they give you a false read on how to play your clubs. you get used to whipping it of the flat surface then once on the course with the ball lying lower you just can't get a clean strike. consequently (in my case anyway) you end up re-learning how to play as you go.
unfortunately I don't have the option of a grass range.

Yes thats why I think I was topping it because the equater of the ball sits lower in the grass so its almost impossible to whip it away. Once I got used to taking the divot with the 3 wood it went like the clappers. I do have a grass range to take advantage of so I am lucky I suppose, however, just seems to be all mud at the moment!
