Now then, now then...

At the moment I have no hybrid/rescue style clubs which isn't a problem as the course I play on has virtually no rough. However, I am returning to blighty soon where the course I play at has plenty of the thick stuff. :(

Therefore I am considering buying a 2 iron hybrid for those longer shots from the rough. Is it worth it? I have a five wood and a three iron already. What is the trajectory like? Would it be good to play into heavyish wind? Are they any good out of the rough? Are they difficult to hit? I play off round about 18. Any recommendations? Cheers lads

Hmm, difficult to advise, depends on your strengths.

I use my 5 wood a fair bit (though not around my home course) and have a 3 hybrid. A 2 hybrid does not have that much loft and will be an unlikely miracle club out of the rough for a medium h'cap.

Welcome b.t.w. to the forum.....where do you play (if it's desert??)

I play on a lovely little desert course in Kuwait called Bucksands, it has real water hazards and everything!!! Different challenges and can be great fun but I do miss the green green grass of home!

I would say leave the 2 hybrid out of the bag and go with 5 wood and 3 hybrid then 4-SW (dependant on whether you use a 4 or not). Assuming you have a driver and 3 wood it'll give you the capacity to use another wedge which is likely to be used more than the 2 hybrid.

The 5 wood and 3 hybrid will give you slightly different alternatives off the tee and in the rough. At the end of the day if you are in the rough you need to be making sure of getting out into play even if that means sacrificing a little distance. Just think a 2 hybrid will be too limiting for a mid handicapper like me.

I nearly joined Bucksands a few years ago as I was working very nearby. In the end I chose the Hunting & Equestrian as it was closer to home. Water hazards but no water in them! Still great fun.

A 2 iron hybrid sounds no good to me, out of rough that is. A straightish face will struggle to get through obstacles (longish grass) without turning over or decelerating. I use a 5 wood as the angle on the face helps cut through the grass with less resistance as well as getting the ball up in the air.

I use a 2 iron hybrid (16 degree loft) and have no problem getting it out of the rough. The design of a hybrid makes it easy to cut through the rough.

I only carry this club because i have always struggled with fairway woods off the deck and don't carry a 4/5 wood. If you can hit your fairway woods ok i don't think there is much need to get a 2 hybrid as your 5 wood does much the same job.

As some have said you want to replace your three iron with a 3 hybrid . I would wait till your home and try before you buy

Got to be honest, I’ve never been into this hybrid thing, but I think I’ll need to have a look. Is 16 degree the norm for a 2 iron hybrid Stuart?

DO IT! Get yourself down your local range and try some hybrids, I guarantee you wont go back, they are so much better in my eyes.

It varies with manufacturer. My 2 is 16deg and my 3 is 19deg. I have seen some as 18deg and 21deg.

I carry a 15° 3 wood, an 18° 5 wood, and a 4 rescue, 22°. This seems a good combo for me. I don't carry a 3 iron, as I find the 22° goes the same distance (190). I have a 16° rescue in the wardrobe, as it is not as versatile as the combination above, and not as easy to hit as I thought it maight be. The 4 rescue is great out of almost any lie, and also off a tee peg.

I have just been fitted for a 15.5 3 wood, titleist and was boshing it off the matt at the range 200 yards. Played with it last night and today and aint hit 1 decent shot with it! couldnt even hit it off the matt!

Think I should of gone for a hybrid instead, much easier to hit off the deck. Anyone know where i stand on taking it back? cost me £165 one day old 15 shots with it max.

Foregolf in chester, its a driving range with a PGA approved fitting centre.

Got fitted for my driver there too, no problems with that. Going to ring the guy today and see what he can do for me, as he knows I should be going back to get fitted for any others gaps in my bag and I do spend a bit with them!

I use x3 Hybrid Clubs, and am just getting back into the game....

I have found my x4 or x4 is better at getting out of heavier rough lies, my x2 is better is first cut, all really impress how they get 'through' the grass and up out....

I am also using the x2 off the tee and fairway..think it a great replacement.

I am convinced the sumo2 also helps keep me square..on impact.

Kind Regards.
