1st Hole in one

If there's one thing this thread proves, it is that the odds of having a hole in one (I read that for the "average" golfer it is something like 12,000 to 1) are not far from the truth!

Those expecting them to happen one day are, I'm afraid to say, likley to be very disappointed. Those of us who have had them are just lucky.

The PGA pro I see for lessons used to play on the Tour, and he has only ever had one. And this is a top player I am talking about here, who has hit thousands of balls (the vast majority of them extremely well!!!).

I think that puts it into perspective for the weekend players amongst us!

Smiffy,
TW is my old home town, and from what I remember, holing in one on the second will have saved you a lot of grief. One of the most rollercoaster greens around that neck of the woods I seem to recall!

It certainly is Jezz.
I haven't played the course for years. It's a bit too suicidal for me with all those criss crossing fairways to be honest.
But I stand by my comment.......my hole in one was class
;) ;) ;)

Criss-cross indeed!
I think there was one point behind the first green where you were potentially in the firing line of three or four holes.
Sorry to digress!

Sounds like Stonehaven south of Aberdeen. Should be told to play wearing a crash helmet there!

well done - I consider hitting a green achievement enough, so am very envious of your ace.

Have to agree on there being an element of luck though, (although I've no doubt smiffy's was class! :D) a chap at my club off high 20s handicap had two holes in one on consecutive days earlier this year - madness! Cost him a few quid too.

My first hole in one was at our 7th hole. It's a short 118 yd par 3. ball flew right at the flag, bounced twice and rolled into the hole.

I had another some time later on a blind par3 and was convinved I was through the green with the tee shot. I couldn't find the ball behind the green. I was just about to vent my feelings etc when a playing partner piped up that it was in the hole. I was convinced it was a wind up to start with.

Yours might have been.
Mine was class
;)

Ah, now I didn't say mine weren't classy, did I?!!

There's a tale attached to the first one, I'm afraid. I was playing on my own behind the stragglers in a senior comp, and was let through at our par-3 2nd by two kindly fellas.

It's around 145 yards and it was a gloriously mild day without a breath of wind. Pin was towards the front, and I absolutely nailed a 9-iron. Straight out of the screws it was, and flew rapier straight towards the hole. It landed, bounced a couple of times and rolled straight in.

I turned to the two seniors expecting high fives all round. Only then did I realise, to my absolute horror, that I had been let through by our club's resident blind golfer and his short sighted guide. Talk about coming crashing down to earth!

I saw them in the bar afterwards and they told me they enjoyed the moment, but to this day my mates don't believe me!

Well done on the hole in one and win!
I've been playin about a year and half was very close about a month ago 6 iron to our 188 yard 9th were you cant see the base of the pin it was roght on line and on its first bounce clattered of something and took a huge kick forward walked up to find my pitchmark had destroyed half the hole and the bottom of the ball hadd hit the metal rim of the hole and shot to 30ft! :D
