18 straight pars in a round

I personally would have gone for the birdie putt thinking well if I do miss it the 18 pars is a great concelation ... AND something to talk about.

But i'd rather have shot gross under.

HOWEVER I can understand why you may have done it, and am a little confused as to why everyones making a big deal about it. If thats wht YOU wanted to do, so what. By the sounds of it, you have shot under par before and your not hurting/cheating anyone else.

Well done.

BUT... would have to kind of agree with Alan knowing a few low shooters, i'm sure they'd all want to be under par. I think i'll continue to watch from the sidelines! Good luck with your grenade!

Can't really see the issue here?

18 straight pars is a fantastic achievement and a difficult one to obtain. The OP did say how he just played normally until about the 14th, when he became aware of how attainable 18 straight pars would be.

I can't imagine he would have changed his game too much from the 14th onwards apart from making sure he was hitting greens and not being so aggresive?

Congrats.

Don't think many club golfer would intentionaly miss an 8ft putt on the last just to say he's "done a Faldo" not when you have the chance to say you shot under par.

Think you played Carnoustie on your golf trip??? Did you take 7 up the last to do a "van de velde" ?? :D

Ive had 18 fours for a two over 72 in a medal, despite it looking amazing on the scorecard I was raging with the amount of putts I missed and a 3 putt bogie on 14 was a disaster!

Don't see the point myself, if you get the chance to go low take it. Level par is a great score on most courses but how you get your level par score is irrelevant. Parring each hole doesn't make any difference nor is it something to aim for i.m.o.
Faldo's was only noticed because it was the last round of a major which he won. If he had been beaten by Azinger that year no-one would have even noticed his score, they'd have said he lost because he couldn't get any birdies.

Each to their own of course but I would always try and go as low as possible.

There's no way in the world that I would ever do this in a competition - this was just a friendly game before work albeit off the back tees.

I hope you handed your card in to the H/cap Sec

It wouldn't make any difference. Unless you declare the round to be a qualifier before you start, general play cannot result in a reduction. And believe me, at 6.0 I would take anything that got me into category 1 at 5.4!

Dont see the problem here, OP says it was a friendly game, he played normally for 14 holes then seen a chance to shoot 18 straight pars so he went for it.

He is obviously used to shooting under par so no big deal doing it again in a friendly game so took the opportunity to do something different which not many amateur players will do very often if at all.

Congratulations and well done

But I did have to intentionally miss an eight foot birdie putt on the 18th for the streak to continue.

Isn't that the problem? Just makes a bit of a contrived joke of the entire thing IMO.

Sounds like the way you were putting you wouldnt have made the one on the last anyway :D

I personally am with Dodger and Robobum , the thought of doing a Faldo would never have entered my head and I would have gone for the putt. I dont think knocking in 18 pars is that much of a big deal anyway , i'd rather have 4/5 birdies and a few bogies to make the round more interesting

Would I have done the same. No I'd probably have had a heart attack as I've never broken 100. Am I envious? Extremely, the most pars I've had in a round is six let alone 18 back to back. Is it an achievement? Of course it is, my man had 18 straight bloody pars and he plays off 6! Hats off to you fella.

What would have been funny would have been if you'd subsequently missed the par putt on the 18th because your birdie 'miss' was so bad. :D
