12 Christmas Films

The wife and I have decided that in the run up to Christmas we are going to watch a Christmas movie each night. We are aiming for 12 nights (so 12 movies) to get us in the Christmassy spirit!

What films do you recommend?

Some that we have considered:

It's a wonderful life
Elf
Jingle All the Way
Die Hard 1 and 2 (Trying to convince her this is a christmas film)
Home Alone 1 and 2

I'm not sure if I can put Star Wars: Rogue One down as an Xmas film, but seeing that for a midnight showing..

Avoid any version of A Christmas Carol, yawn, unless it is the Muppet version.

There is someting about animated films that I find particularly Christmassy

We like Scrooge (the Jim Carey animated version is visually brilliant) and Tom Hanks The Polar Express.

And for me you can't beat Oliver for feelgood sing-a-long and Big is neat.

Then of course as Bob points out, there's Love Actually, Notting Hill, 4 Weddings, Sleepless in Seattle, You Got Mail and all of those brilliant films!

So far this winter I've got into the habit of watching such films in the afternoon...last week was Forrest Gump and Sleepless...loved them both!

The Alistair Sim version of this is a classic. Well worth watching.
Also, the original "Miracle on 34th Street", White Christmas, Holiday Inn. All the good old classics.

The Alistair Sim version of this is a classic. Well worth watching.

I confess this was typed in a moment of weakness. I have just seen so many versions, no deviation, that the story bores me now. It is a great story and the Alistair Sim one is probably the best, after the Muppets obviously. I think it would be okay if people kept the story in films but lots of tv programmes incorporate the story as well now and it irritates me. You were right to put me in my place
