100% FIR - how often does it happen to you?

I'd imagine everybody on here stood on the Tee box is hoping to hit the Fairway/Green, understandably it's about all aspects of the game, but if your giving yourself decent chances off the tee then great.

The closest I came to this (think a couple in very light semi) was same round of some of worst shanks ever. A bizarre and frustrating day!

Can't ever remeber 100% - usually hit between 7 and 12 out of 14. As with a lot of golf stats you have to see them in context. As others have said being on fairway isn't everything. I'd rather be just off but on the "right" side, than on the fairway blocked out, or 30 yards back. Same with GIR. Just off the front when the pin is at the front is often better than being on the green right at the back.

I used to keep these sort of stats but on their own I'm not sure how much they help. Now I'm really only interested in what I score. I keep track of average hole scores to see which holes I don't play well and think if there is anything specific I need to do to play that hole better. Then it might help to have the detailed stats to see there is a correlation with anything, e.g. if maybe I miss that fairway a lot or three putt that green too often.

Doubt I've ever done it. It's one of the stats I need to improve upon.

If you're hitting more FIR, it also probably means you are also hitting more 'usable' drives as well. i.e. Giving yourself a chance to go for the green.

I know from my own stats a high FIR correlates to a better score for me. I loose far too many shots from wayward tee shots.

Just saw the stats of the last group in the Czeck Open. With 2 holes to go, all had 6/12 FIRs! Another demo that it's not the most important stat!

Nobody said it's the most important stat and comparing us to professionals doesn't really back the point up, when there's lots of discussion about slow play though, putting it on the fairway is a bonus.

This was posted by Bobmac on another thread and in my opinion sums it up perfectly.
When you are a high handicap, you will find all parts of your game are probably a bit rubbish.
As you improve, you have less room for a bad area of your game.
Once down to Cat I, you have to have a good all round game.
Everyone has their own favourite area.......driving, approach play, short game.
IMHO, good putting is the most important part.
