Hi Hodge... I grew up in Walton and have been member at West Byfleet, Foxhills and Clandon Regis at various stages of my life. Friends have been members at Burhill, St Georges, Drift and Effingham, and I think I've played most of the courses in that area.
In that range of clubs that you are...
I had a really interesting experience yesterday in a club knockout match with an American guy who has been a member at the club for 3 years.
When he first joined, he submitted 3 cards and was given a playing handicap of 10... roll on 3 years and he’s played 3 or 4 Q comps a year partly to...
I think he has been so prolific at this course because its soooooooo dull. All the holes run side by side with a few big trees in between. It is impossible to loose your ball and a seriously poor drive will just leave you on another fairway. Plus the bunkering is as basic as it comes, bunker...
Group of 16 did a trip to villamoura 2 years ago. Stayed close to the marina in a hotel and played Quinta south, the old course and one more.
We booked with your golf travel and had transfers each day to the courses. Super easy and hassle free. Cost was around £500 for accommodation and golf...

I’ve done two interviews in the past and both were just a formal chat about the golf club, about your golfing history and a chance to ask some generic questions to show you are interested in the club.
I wore a tie to both and would recommend the same if the club is quite prestigious
Just to add my view on this, I just left the best club in my ‘area’... 30-45min depending on traffic, 2 courses (one in the top 100), great practice facilities... but it’s all pointless if you don’t use it and I found the drive too long.
Now I’m back at my old club, 12-20min drive...
If you listen to the podcast, he explains how the strokes gained system differentiates between a shot in the rough where you can still go for the green and a shot into an area which needs to be recovered from i.e. whack it into play. So it would be fine for all courses it seems
