To use a football analogy:
‘You can only play the team (or course in this case) in front of you’
We’re talking at the top end of the game amateur game here. If someone gets to scratch on a course that’s rated lower than a harder course it’s still scratch.
Otherwise it’s like saying, ‘yeah...
The irony being those 2 or 3 handicaps could be legitimate but they don’t enter the comps as they can’t compete with the ‘div 1’ mentally full of 8-12 handicappers
I don’t disagree with anything you’ve posted but consider it the other way too.
I put in a lot of general play cards for two reasons:
1) I want my handicap to be a true reflection of my ability and want take pride in having a low handicap
2) I don’t enter all of the stableford competitions...
At the end of the day there’s a couple of things going on here.
1. We wouldn’t be having this debate if the handicap system provided a genuine equal opportunity for low handicappers to compete.
2. The reality is in fact from my experience that the average field of a competition will be...
This is an interesting one. I’ll try and split it down in 2 ways if I can!!
There’s those who play of single figures and those who play of low single figures. I see it a lot at my club… the single figure golfer (maybe 7 or 8 hcp) is trapped in the realm of 12-14 handicappers who are picking up...
We’re lucky at our place that there is a good number of old ‘cat 1’ players. It wouldn’t work at every club. Other options however are more medals which encourages better or more consistent golf. Clubs could have multiple divisions in stablefords too. I’d rather compete for a smaller pot with...
Interesting thread…
From club to club the definition of a ‘low handicapper’ will vary. Some will class 6 as low and others it’s towards 1 and scratch.
As a ‘low handicapper’ (3) I don’t think WHS has much to do with it. You’ll never get a system that is ‘fair’ because there are too many...
Hi all,
Me and a few others were talking today about creating a 3rd division for club comps.
Our club has a good turnout of low single figure playing members (0-5)
It would seem there are some quite high scores coming in recently from the current div 1 (0-12)
Anyone got any experience of...
Interesting question. Would suggest most amateur golfers would have more success scoring better or lowering handicap through working on short game <100 yards and in. Its simply easier to work on than finding 20 yards off the tee
... I often find that after a couple or few weeks off eg a long holiday that I pick up some form. It gives me an opportunity to drop the swing thoughts etc. As gutted as I am that we're not all out enjoying the great weather, I'm looking forward to seeing if this is true? Still Chipping balls in...
Enjoy them! I got a set earlier this year and they are the best irons I've ever played. Will be in the bag for years to come... Just hope you get to use them on the course soon. Stay safe and enjoy that net!
I can't play without mine but I play regularly. I'd say you get the most benefit out of them if you hit it consistently to a yardage. If not, a GPS watch would do the job to give you an idea
Play a game called keep it on the fairway. A good place to start with this is using a 5 iron on every par 4 or 5 to tee off with. It doesn't t have to be a 5i, but a club you are comfortable you will get it in play with. You'll be suprised by what you score when you take out the equation of...
I've got a ping moonlite. Really good value for money, plenty of room and lightweight. I like that it has a strap feature which can be one or two straps. Also benefits from a waterproof bottom to keep your grips dry should you get caught in a shower.
Don't worry about it mate. 3.5 hours in a comp is a decent time. Slow play is definately an issue in the game but people who race round the course are just as bad as those who are like snails in my opinion. If you feel like the game could flow quicker and there's a gap in front of you, then you...
