your other sports/ hobbie's/ interests, what are they?

A bit of amatuer game keeping and shooting etc for a gun club also used to train gun dogs although never had any in field trials. Fly fishing used to he in there as well.

Skiing
Try to get 2 trips a year
Very similar reasons to golf (outdoors, fresh air, beautiful views, sociable activity during and after, you can just enjoy or really get into the theory /technique, you are always challenged with getting better and getting over the current plateau, you can work it out on your own or go and have lessons, you can join large groups or go with your normal mates there is loads of new equipment and clothing out all the time, people are using GPS units, and there are just as many smart-arses and twIts engaging in it as there is playing golf :) Also you get to meet some really fantastic people as you do in golf.
The extra thing you get with skiing is adrenaline rushes, but i suppose you have to balance that against the injury potential.
Also we have snowboarders to blame for all our ills, compared to lady golfers :)
And the skiing forums are just as mad, stupid, argumentative as this one :) (swap dress codes for helmets as an example)

And also, to match my winning of the Ping G20s comp on here this summer, i have just won a pair of Austrian hand made top of the range skis :)

So i ski in winter when it's wet and windy and muddy, and golf the rest of the time

All of which needs to fit in around two young children and a busy working week. Can't do everything though and giving up golf club membership was one thing that had to give...

used to play Rugby to a fairly decent standard. I retired at 33 when it was obvious my legs were going. Also the older I got the more disagreements with coaches/managers I had. I had no interest really in messing about in the lower teams so I just walked away.

Golf and 2 kids have kind of filled the void.

I do think about improving my fitness levels and fighting the onset of middle age, but running for runnings sake bores me. I re joined a gym in early Dec, the plan is to go 2/3 times a week...... I've been twice in a month. :(

What about trail running or adventure races? I find the mixed terrain keeps things fun.. I agree road running can be dull as anything. Down there in Dorset you must have some amazing coastal paths to run on?

Also try the minimalist/barefoot stuff to spice things up?

I used to play badminton to a decent standard and football not quite as well.

Now they would kill me, and the only other game I play is pool, for a couple of teams. I do carry my own cue though.

Gliding used to take up most of my time but I stopped instructing due to the different ways they kept trying to kill me! I now occasionally fly for fun and only on fair days, had enough of rough weather flying.

I am, however, enjoying the art of Guinness consumption on a regular basis now!

There are some amazing places to run. the beach, the new forest, the downs the other side of Wimbourne.

This time last year I bought all the kit including some tights), went to the New Forest twice and loved it. Just not enough to do it on a regular basis, I went running on the beach once in the summer, pulled my calf and limped home with my tail between my legs.

I have been inspired by this thread. I'm off to the gym now. A least there I can go on the running machine and look at some birds arse on the stepper infront. (apologies Amanda it doesn't make me a bad person :()

Forgot about dedicating almost 15 years of my life to this! Starting with the air cadets and progressing onto owning my own ship!

Well my other love is my motobike, 1900 cc and goes like stink! Am going to Denmark and Sweden in June for a rally then shipping the bike to the USA for a rally in North Carolina, prob why my h/cap stays so high, if it's nice I'll be out on the bike somewhere.

Play tennis, although this year have not been able to due to a shoulder problem. Managed to win my local club championships a couple of times, and then lost in the final to a whippersnapper that I used to coach. :( Took up a couple of sports I hadn't played for years, table tennis, and badminton when my daughter showed an interest. Unfortunately not the best sports when you have a dodgy shoulder and tennis elbow.

Love football and cricket, only watching these days. Was a regular at Reading until I started playing golf again on a Saturday.

Playing football used to be my big passion until my Achilles went pop last year. Still watch as much as I can though, I just can't find the confidence to play again, despite the temptation to return to banging the goals in :(

Also into gaming (xbox) and am addicted to Battlefield 3 at the mo. Love reading, watching films and enjoy a bit of course fishing when the opportunity arises (not that often). Don't know how I'd cope without golf now, despite only taking it up a few years ago.

Whatever motivates you is fine but hope they're not lycra clad wobbly lumps !!

Rugby was my life before injury stopped me playing. If I am not golfing I will be watching rugby on the telly or over at the Tigers or even watching my old club whilst having a few beers.

If I am arounf the house I read, watch films or escape to my man cave and play on my Xbox. I also love cooking.

If going to the pub counts as a hobby then I spend a fair bit of time in there as well.

Use to be football. Played some decent non-league for a bit, did some managing, started my FA badges and qualified as a ref. Played a bit of first XI cricket and was an OK wicket keeper. Other than that it has been golf and more golf.

I do a fair bit of freelance writing, got some ideas for books, articles, programme synopsis etc that I keep going back to and looking at. Just need that one kernel of a brilliant idea or a spark to get me really writing properly again and doing it in a structured way.
