Just perusing the BBC site before I go to bed and there's a piece about Vinnie Kompany. There saying he is up there with the best ever leaders from other football teams. I have had a look at a few mentioned and I must say that Terry, Keane, Adams, Shearer. I could go along with. But what about other teams. It don't have to be Prem teams either.

Middlesbrough; best I saw. Stuart Boam during Jack Charlton's reign as manager. Best from history, maybe Brian Clough or George Hardwick.

Roger Brown was immense at the back for us when we were in the lower divisions and especially in our play off seasons but even in the twilight of his career no-one came close to Bobby Moore as a leader and he really dragged the rest of that side along with him. In recent years the best was probably Brede Hangeland especially in Europe

Stuart McCall - absolute hero in Bradford. Came through as a kid, was captain at a really young age and was around during difficult times (fire in 85) and then came back towards the end of his career and totally bossed the promotion side to the premiership (when he fell of the car roof celebrating).

As a player - immense.

Hard to chose really as there have been so many

Don’t really remember Thommo but was supposed to be superb

Souness was brilliant then Hansen

I guess Gerrard was an inspirational captain with his performances on the pitch and especially in the 05 and 06 finals

I guess greatest leader would be Gerrard

But I reckon older generation would go for Hughes or Yeats

Hughes. One of the best I've ever seen, and thats from any team. Streets ahead of Gerrard.

Another two I'd chuck into the equation, neither of whom were the best players, even in their own team but who would get every player to give their all, organise and generally lead from the front were Vinnie Jones and John Fashanu
