Just watched Robert Allenby take out a spectator with a wayward drive, didn't see whether there was a shout of fore or not but that is irrelevant for my question.

Whilst you are on the stretcher with a pad on the bleeding lump that has grown out of your forehead, do you really want a signed golf ball!!???

Proper floored him too! Thought for a moment it could be fatal the way he went down.

Hope it was a ProV and not a Pinnacle :)

You could tell from the dimple pattern on his noggin. :D

Seamless technology. Easy to spot. Pity the patent belonged to someone else.

'Drop and stop', a great advertising slogan, except in this case, it was more 'stop and drop'.

I saw this this morning, Allenby didn't look too bothered, in fact he looked more annoyed that his ball had been stopped!

Hope the guy was ok. He went down like an Brazilian winger but it is so galling to see pros not leading by example and shouting a warning. Why are they any different. I'm waiting for the day, which will inevitably come, when a pro at one of these events is sued for damages, especially if they hadn't shouted.

I saw it too Robo , , , i'd be pretty gutted with a signed ball. I always wonder why the pro's don't invite them to stop by the tour van and sort them out with a box of balls and some free goodies....caps, gloves etc. That might soften the blow !!!

Just seen it. Nice shout of fore Robert. Surely its about time the various tours had a word with these clowns about some of their basic obligations on course. I'm sure if any of us struck anyone without a shout of four we would be in big trouble either legally or physically.

Well he did hook it round the corner so I guess he wouldn't have known what was round there... and it did only miss the fairway by about 4 feet... well it did 'til it got a fortunate bounce :)

Whilst I agree, a shout of fore, could have been made, I don't think getting hit by a golf ball entitles you to anything.

If you've chosen to attend a golf event, and stand as close as possible to where you think the players will be hitting their second shots from, you should understand what risk you are taking.

It makes me sad that modern society just likes to blame others and profit from misfortune.

What next, claims direct sponsoring the events and having reps running round the fairways just waiting for these sorts of incidents?

What is the punishment for not adhering to the rules of golf. Under the etiquette section the following is there

If a player plays a ball in a direction where there is a danger of hitting someone, he should immediately shout a warning. The traditional word of warning in such situations is “fore”.

I have noticed the recent tendency for Pro's to raise their club in the direction of the ball but not shout fore expecting the stewards to raise the decabe level for them.

If there wasn't a shout I am sure this guy could sue.

If it hit me, I would want a new set of irons .
