Afternoon all

So a few of the lads have managed to get us a weekend away at Wychwood Park, Crewe, sorted for May this year. 3 days golf, 2 nights staying in the hotel.

I've not played there before - has anyone any experience of the place (and want to give me some tips! lol!)

Also, we'll probably want to venture out on the Saturday night so any recommendations on a local curry house or boozer?

Cheers

I played one of the courses in October on the way back from Woburn, and enjoyed it.

Make you dont cut off too much on the "carry" holes.

Get a buggy, its a bit of a slog with some tidy walks between holes. You'll be glad you did, especially after a night out.
Decent course though, I'd certainly play it again.
Nantwich is only 5 mins away and pretty decent.
something for everyone..a couple of busy bars a plenty of old boozers.

Nantwich is where you want to head for a curry and a night out. If you want to know a good curry house near the time send me a pm.

Wychwood is a fairly good track and in may should be in great condition.

I know wychwood like the back of the hand, play there regularly.

The course has been immense this season, best it's been for years. Greens have been a dream.

My best mate works in the shop there also, let me know your dates and i'll make sure he takes care of ya!
Any questions drop me a message!

Cheers pal - that's much appreciated! Thanks very much.

Bored at work and it's Friday so thought i'd do a hole by hole guide!

1 - Drive straight at post in the middle of the fairway, if you drag it too far left you're in trouble, it's fairly wide past the post and will catch the slope. If you can't get to the green in 2 then lay up before the bunkers, it's an easy flick from there.
2 - Straight forward par 3, try and leave it short and right of the pin, slopes back front and right to left.
3 - If you can carry it, drive straight at the right bunker, get over it and it's a little flick. If not, hit a wood or long iron to the right of them. Still only a 90/100 yard shot from there.
4 - Really open hole, anything left of the big fairway bunker is your drive. Long approach in but big green.
5 - Tough tee shot to judge, anything right of the bunker is fine. I normally hit a 4 iron in summer, should leave you near the top of the bank to hit in.
6 - Downhill par 3, don't club down, always plays longer than you think. If the pin is left hand side of the green then leave it alone, go for the heart of the green.
7 - Has a split fairway, left hand side is easier imo, drive at the bunker and it normally bounces right, if you're around there it's an easy lay up and shot in.
8 - tee shot right of the 2 big fairway bunkers, normally a 3 wood and then a flick in.
9 - tough tee shot again, if it's dry don't take the driver out, normally results in finding the water. There's more space over the left hand bunker than you think. If you carry straight over it with a wood is normally perfect.
10 - If you're anywhere near the huge tree in the middle you'll be blocked out and if the pins top right you'll have no chance of getting to it. I always try and play left of the tree.
11 - Simple par 3 but very tough green. If the pin is at the front make sure you don't go long. If it's at the back, club up and make sure you get to the top tier of the green.
12 - Avoid going right off the tee, 2 big fairway bunkers and lots of long stuff! Your lay up should be about 10-15 yards left of the big tree on the right hand side. don't drag it left for your lay up you'll most likely find one of the 3 fairway bunkers.
13 - Depending on where the tees are (and how far you hit it) you can normally carry the stream leaving an easy shot in. If you have to lay up it's a tough long shot in.
14 - Weird one to explain this, the hole is cut in to 3 sections. Off the tee try and go for the right hand side fairway section (normally a long iron or wood) leaves an easier shot in and takes the water out the equation.
15 - If you hit a driver make sure you hit a cut, if you hit it bullet straight you'll end up in trees but slice it too far and you'll find the water. 3 wood is a safe shot but leaves a tough 2nd.
16 - Aim directly over the fairway bunker, if you carry over it you'll be perfect. Go right of it and it'll be a long long shot in to a tough green.
17 - Always club up, the water goes further back than you think.
18 - straight forward last par 5, leave your drive short of the tree and right of it leaves an easy 2nd shot. Can normally hit in two if dry. Avoid pulling left for 2nd shot as brings the long stuff in to play and water.

Stegsie, please tell him you have cancelled and are going to Hawkstone instead.......

BTW it was hawkstone I went to not Wychwood, but think Ive played there before. is it the one in the nature reserve, with all the slopey back gardens?
