Would you waste a year of your life to get to scratch?

No, I think it's almost impossible anyway from a standing start but from a mid handicappers view it's possible.

Being a scratch golfer only opens doors to some good amateur events but it needs a lot of work going from scratch to making a good living as a pro and only worth the effort if you are under 20 years old.

Yes agreed, however if it were possible would you still make the sacrifice of a year?

Options?
1) I guess you could turn pro and do the 3 year MSP course (Mars, Snickers, Powerade).
2) Not good enough to get on any tour but from scratch you might press on.
3) Play/practice enough to keep your game at scratch level and maybe play some comps.
4) Watch your h/cap slide back up to 3 when the practice stops.
5) Any other?

Given everything work related and bills were taken care of I'd jump at it.

Its addictive this game lol

The son of a friend of mine is off 1. Nice handicap. He is heading towards scratch next year. He is being offered a golf scholarship at Seattle next year for £3000 a year. So he will get a degree, some golf coaching, all for 1/3 the cost of a degree in the uk.

Can't fault that really.

Scratch guy at Gourock went to America on a Scholarship and hated the life style. Jacked it and came back.

At least he was good enough to try it lol
