Would you take a divot

Pretty sure I saw someone do this at The Belfry - in a Ryder Cup I think on the 18th from the lowest tier when pin was on top one. No divot, but did take care to repair it.

One green at an old club has potential for this. There's a Local Rule to prevent it - though probably unenforceable, save via serious ettiquette.

I'm pretty sure it was done on one of the greens in the open at St Andrews one year and if memory serves me well it was a certain Mr Woods that did it and there was outcry that he had done it on the hallowed turf. I may be wrong but I'm sure he did.

Personally yes I would. If you take a little time to repair the damage it wouldn't even show and wouldn't hurt the green that much either. If anything it would airate that part of the green as you would be there for a while digging around with a pitch mark repairer making good so it couldn't be seen.

Because my chipping is way better than my long range putting, especially if multiple levels are involved.

I played a course in Florida, where the front was raised, the middle dropped away so you could bury a caravan (seriously), and then the back third was up level with the front. I'd be way better off pitching from front to back than putting.

For the guy on telly last night, I don't think his path to the pin was blocked, I just think he thought he could get it closer with a wedge.

It was Nick Watney, he looked like he'd have had to putt off the green to get to the flag.

I would take a divot, well I'd try to,.. but probably knife it across the green

I think I know the hole you are talking about. Down on the side near the river is it?

I personally wouldn't feel comfortable taking a divot but for a little chip type shot I don't tend to anyway.

its the 11th. you play two along the river , 9 & 10 then turn around and play back across a big sloping fairway. tough hole !

If this was a bounce game with a mate at my regular course, I'd lift the ball to the fringe and play from there. If the shot had a lot of money and/or winning the tournament riding on it, I'd be leaving a divot.

This happened to me and i took a gap wedge. Boy it's worrying doing it.
Although it's allowed, it does feels like the greenkeeper is going to jump out on you from behind a bush!
