Would you take a divot

Just seen that, I think sometimes if they put the pins in the back corner of a green with the fringe in between front and back (kidney shaped?) they must expect a couple of divots. And the divot shouldn't be a problem for anyone on the same day as someone landing in the same place would presumably do the same thing?

Yep - had occasion to do it myself a few times over the years.
i should add that it was more to the side of a green when I couldn't get to the pin by putting.

Well Murph....With my old swing..Before the lessons started i could nearly scalp the whole thing.......I was always told that i was unearthing Families of worms with my wedges.....But since the changes im starting to shallow them out a lot...Still wouldnt chance it though...

If your saying you've landed on another green, can't you drop it on the fringe (no penalty) and then fire it away not worrying about the green?

This is on the same green as the hole...
Some funny shaped greens mean you can't have a putt to the hole as you'd have to go over rough - say a kidney shape green with the ball on one side and the hole on the other.

Just get a lobber out and flop it over - simples

This was on the same green but he couldn't putt as the fringe came back in, like a kidney shape. The best he could have done putting would have been maybe 15ft left of the pin.

Couldn't bring myself to do it intentionally and would try to chip it.

But then again, with my short game there's no guarantee that there would not be an ugly scar.

if it was the shot id give it a go now.

contemplated doing it on a 3 tier green at strabane. i decieded against it that day. left my putt a mile short. told myself to trust the chip the next time if thats what i feel is the right shot.

I would think that any reasonably competent golfer that has a 60 in the bag could play the shot without making a divot. I would definitely do it without thinking about it. After all if the green keeper does not want you doing this then he should not have stupid pin positions that you can be blocked from on the green.

I think I know the hole you are talking about. Down on the side near the river is it?

I personally wouldn't feel comfortable taking a divot but for a little chip type shot I don't tend to anyway.
