Would You Risk It

Got a new 3 wood arriving later today (Callaway XHot, love the driver and it was dirt cheap). Tomorrow morning is my first medal in ages and the first shot off the first tee normally needs a 3 wood.

So, bearing in mind this is a club that I have never hit before (No need for the try before you buy/custom fit lectures), would you risk putting it in the bag and hitting it off the first tee, leave it out until you have had a few swings with it or put it in the bag, take another club off the first tee and bring it out for a less pressured shot.

If missing the distance slightly long or short is ok then totally yes, if you're making a change in my book you make it.

personally i would rather hit at least a couple of shots with it first. but whats the worst that can happen

Yeah, I would if you normally hit 3 wood off the 1st.

Did that with a cobra driver I bought off the internet, arrived in post, couldn't wait to hit it and first hit on 1st tee in a comp.

You should leave it wrapped (or even in the box in came in) until your FC's and you walk onto the 1st tee, pop your ball onto a tee as normal and only then unwrap it and give it a wallop

Many kudos points if you strip it

Given any club I ever bought had a honeymoon period where it almost always was stripped with its first hit I would go for it. I would of course show of as Slab indicated above.....how cool would that be.....or how embarrassing......hell my friends would rib me for years if I miss hit it.

Risk (embarrassment) reward......do tell us

The last two times I have change my 3 wood one took me 6 months to get used to (in and out of the bag on a regular basis) but stayed in the bag for over 10 years. The other took me just a couple of weeks but had the shaft changed after the first few rounds.

My mantra is try them out in friendly games first.

This is a very tempting idea.

yeah, just hit it very hard....I'd recommend roaring as you do so to make sure you get full distance

If you went to the range first without the pressure of a medal, the situation would be no different the first time you take it onto the course, so just do it now rather than later.......it will be what it will be.................Fooooooore.:smirk:

Not a chance! I've hit clubs for the first time off the first tee but only in social rounds. I'd be too full of doubts and fears to do it justice!
