Would you play ?

What's wrong with protecting a handicap to keep it artificially low? The only loser in this is the guy himself, as he is making it harder to take the money. It is a bit daft, but if thats what you get off on, why not?

ChrisMc, sooner or later you will have to play, and run the risk of going up. The longer you wait, the harder it will be. Sign up, play the comp, what will be will be.

I am in a similar place, h/cap 11.3, two medals left, don't want to be off 12 for the winter, but if I am, then I am.

I'd rather have have my name up in the clubhouse than worry about my handicap. It's only a number. Youv'e got to go for it
ChrisMc.

Dissagree with everyone. Stop playing golf now take up dancing. That way you will die a single figure handicapper and your family will be proud.
Its a stupid game anyway.

Sorry about that folks, the wife got hold of the computer. Only someone who doesnt understand sport could think protecting a handicap was a good thing.

I've seen this where guys who protect a low handicap just so they can enter good 36 hole scratch events throughout the year on good courses and then either have a couple of 85s or NRs in the comp and are stopping people who can genuinely shoot a decent score from playing because they have been balloted out.

You're right all, I am entered and have payed my money already anyway, so I'll be doing my damned'est to win it, and take what comes along.

Actually, after having some great medals this year when playing deliberately to reduce my handicap alone, thats how I'll be approaching the weekends game as well I think !

Whatever else happens will be a bonus

Best of luck! x

If you didn't play it you would always be looking back thinking what if?I'm in contention for goty in my own club and i wouldn't miss the last competition(this weekend also) for anything.
Getting to single figures is a great achievement but you've done it.If you drop back to 10 there's more comps next year to get back down.
Play it i say :D

whats more important. That tiny number next to your name on a piece of paper that will go up by one digit or having your name on the sacred club board IN GOLD?

go for it

Go and play it Chris. Forget all the negative thoughts as you'll put extra pressure on yourself and will have youself beaten before the first tee.
Play it like just any other regular medal you've played ;)
