would you ever kick an animal?

I was attacked by a dog at the age of five , I had plastic surgery to repair the skin on my cheek .
Dogs scare me and I will do what's nessesary.
A puppy though is out of order.
The guy might have been partially sighted.
all dogs should be on leads in public.

It's becoming another of those "depends where you're looking from" threads.

I accept that Patrick is not minded to go along with my suggestion of the possibility of the chap being scared (fair enough, unlikely, but still possible)

The scared-est person I've ever seen was a young girl - about 8 years old so not tiny - running away from a little dog, screaming wildly. Dog was about 10 inches tall, fluffy, and looked like it couldn't chew through fresh air. He's only playing said the owner, & l have no doubt it was. Made no difference to the girl though - she was still terrified. Owner just thought girl was being silly. Perspective is all.

And whoever raised the question of badly behave kids etc - yep, they should be muzzled and on leads too. More so than dogs i think.

This was an adult male in is 50/60's who hoofed a 12 week old puppy before said puppy had got to him, if he had been jumped on and "attacked" maybe they would have recourse to be scared, but this guy kicked out at him before he had gotten within a foot, in fact stepped towards him and kicked out.

When my daughter had only just started walking I was with her in my local park. A small dog came bouncing up 'all friendly' and jumped on her - knocking her over. She screamed hysterically and was scared of dogs for quite some years afterwards. The owners? They hardly said a word of apology - it was only being friendly. The dog was very lucky I wasn't close enough to give it a mighty kick up in the air a kick that it most certainly would have got,

Bloodthirsty retribution, nothing else. Lol

the only thing i would muzzle is you:rolleyes:

But I'm not likely to come running up to you or yours and try and rip your faces off/throats out with my teeth am I?
ALL dogs have the potential to maul, just muzzle all dogs easy.
To answer your OP.......deffo, no problem, no matter puppy/fully grown if it came running towards me or my family.;)

So did he “hoof him “ or did he “kick out” before he reached him ? That is two different things

Did he actually make contact as D4S has asked about the kick ?

If someone is kicking out then that would suggest someone who has possibly had issues with a dog before - how far away were they - if it’s a puppy prone to running off maybe best to be on a lead at the moment

Great form of Christianity you follow.

Pretty strange post: I'm sure religion has nowt to do with it!

In the situation SILH described I sure most fathers of a toddler would do whatever was necessary to prevent the dog 'molesting' their child. A well aimed boot might well be the quickest and best option!

A small 'friendly' dog is not going to molest anyone. Yes we are all protective of our kids but seeing a small friendly dog bouncing about, excited and over friendly would not warrant me to kick it into next week just because it knocked my daughter over.

Dogs instinctively protect their space and family / 'pack' members. Perhaps you could explain how you know a strange dog is 'friendly' towards you a stranger (adult or child) ! and I guess you've never seen a Jack Russell sink its teeth into something (could be why they're commonly used for Rabbiting, etc).

One attacked my German Shepherd, which promptly sat when told. Its owner was bitten by his own dog.

Sometimes small dogs can be snappy and quite vicious out of all proportion to their size.

Its mostly bad owners and lack of training.

I really dislike dogs, both my boys have been bitten by dogs down the beach where we have our beach hut. They have also had their balls burst a few times as well. Personally I wouldn't kick a dog but it's been close a few times.

Another thing that really annoys me is dog owners seem to think we have to like their dogs and love them as much as they do as they let them annoy, ruin our games and generally get in the way. Many (not all) seem to think they don't need to control their dogs, keep them away from kids (you know not all kids like dogs, mine dislike them, especially the small yappy jumping up ones).

The thing that annoys me is dog owners who don't clean up after their dogs, it's not nice when we take our granddaughter for a walk in the park and there is dog s..... everywhere.

I should add most owners are ok.

difficult to reply without sounding how I don't want it to (dog lover, had them as kids and will do again soon)

However, its easy to look at things purely from a dog owner/lover perspective. Many people are absolutely s**t scared of dogs for whatever reason and/or actually don't like dogs being near them at all. Obviously that doesn't justify randomly going around booting dogs but if a dog/puppy is racing towards someone who is terrified/doesn't like dogs then I can understand why it happens.

Would I kick a dog? Probably but it would have to be attacking one of my kids. Perhaps understand that it would take a lot less for others and see it from their perspective

Believe me, responsible dog owners hate this more than anyone, as the lazy beggars let the rest down. Dog owners are normally the first ones to pull them up on it.

Nearly as bad are the ones that do clean up after their dogs only to throw the bag into the tree’s.
