was taking our 12 week old GSP Puppy out for a walk at lunchtime, when he run up to a a couple in i would say late 50's Early 60 and the guy kicked him.
completely unprovoked. I asked him why he did that and he just said 2he should be on a lead2. Rupert hadn't even jumped up at them.
They looked like a normal couple. Rupert does tend to get excited to meet anyone and everyone after all everything is new to him and so far we have only had positive experiences with people. there was another dog walker saw this and had a go at the bloke, saying he was pathetic and did he fancy trying to kick him as well. by the time i checked he was alright they had disappeared off or i would have said a done few things too.

i can't believe someone would just kick a dog, let alone a puppyRupy2.jpg

In answer to the topic title, it would depend on the circumstances, if an animal was attacking me or a member of my family, quite possibly, yes, I'd kick an animal.

In regards your actual posting, for what you have described it seems very unwarranted however and I'm only being devils advocate here, we only have your side of the story.

Oh and if the guy doesn't want your 3 wood, I'd be interested :D

Yes I could kick a animal. I reckon I could kick a hamster a long way, maybe 30 yards, but I wouldn’t fancy kicking say an elephant, not even a baby one.

I actually did kick a dog a few week back.
2 dogs were off the lead & were attacking my dog.
I tried shouting to scare them off but they carried on,so I volleyed one of them.
The owner was close to getting one aswell.
They really were nasty dogs.

Yes would kick an animal if it was causing harm or danger to someone or indeed to a fellow dog that is on a lead - there are plenty of people that have been harmed by dogs or indeed are scared of dogs and will react - hence why most have them on a lead especially if they are very active and prone to running off up to people and even if being friendly some people may react and be threatened by a dog

Wow that is so out of order...BUT...I have twice kicked a dog and both times to protect mine from being attacked. Max was attacked by two black labs and some days later we encountered them again and again off the lead and out of control - when it was near enough I booted the bigger one as it came in to attack Max. Another time Bonnie was being stalked by a border collie who was unattended in the back of a farm truck - as it came in for the attack I kicked it hard in the mush.

I'd protect my two in the same way again BUT your incident is very different and the guy is a cruel bully...

Personally I think if your dog isnt trained to not run up to other dogs then it shouldn’t be off the lead.
Hate it when other dog owners say that their 5st Rottweiler only wants to play.
My dog is on a lead & he really doesn’t want to play.

but isn't it just a dogs natural instinct to greet other dogs?

ive been in your situation few times with what i would consider to be dangerous breed, but never felt the need to kick one though.

My son is very scared of dogs and I would go further than kick if I had too.In your case it sounds harsh but as has been said yours is one side.I honestly don't like dog owners especially ones who yank the lead and wrench their necks.

I would never kick a dog based on breed,or a dog that did just want to play.
I’d ask the owner to get hold of their dog.
The dog I kicked really was after killing my dog.

Loaded question Patrick, in the circumstances you describe, no I wouldn’t, plenty of other circumstances I would.

all dogs bite true, but some can do some damage, seen a rottweiler pin down a collie and almost kill it and a staffy hanging off a newfoundland and then owner couldn't get it off.

if i see those breeds of dogs a tend to just avoid, esp with two (when Baldrick was still alive) soppy soft mouthed gun dogs

You've just had your forum membership card revoked! If you can't achieve forum distances you shouldn't be here. If you do right over left with your laces you will get an extra 10yds, assuming you've been fitted.

I use to have a staffy,he was soft as a brush & never showed any signs of aggression to other dogs.
But I never allowed him to to run up to strangers or their dogs.
A lot of people have a bad opinion of Staffy’s & tend to be scared of them.

Problem is that anyone not familiar with dogs cannot recognise if the huge dog travelling at 20mph towards then just wants to play or rip their throats out.
Sometimes even experienced dog owners cannot recognise the difference.

Surely the simple answer is regardless of the dog - keep them on the lead because none of us knows 100% how a dog will react when approaching people

If an animal was in attack mode I'd do whatever was required.
Cruelty for the sake of it is disgusting.
A responsible dog owner would keep a badly behaved dog on a lead, an inquisitive puppy on the other hand is totally different.
The problem is that too many dog owners are irresponsible, I can't believe patricks148 is though. On that basis I don't need the other side of his story.

I might get more distance with a drop kick, keeping it lower and drilling it. Realistically you wouldn’t get much ‘rebound’ from a hamster, so I reckon 30 yards is out there.
