Worst weather you have played in?

Worst weather has to be when I'd just started. Very keen as you are when you first start. Terrential rain for 2 and a half hours of the round and some nice winds gusting 30-40 to top it off. Came in soaked, couldn't feel my hands. But still enjoyed it!

12 Hardy souls of here played Aberdovey Last Winter think it was Feb. It hosed it down from the 2nd hole, that combined with wind and being about 3*c made it pretty Rough going.

I don't think any of us finished the round and I was pretty ecstatic when we walked in at about the 15th.

We had a great day out there the day before though!

This! Brilliant weekend, superb course, but that Sunday was brutal! The Si 1 hole was a par 5 and was a drive and a 6 iron to the front of the green on Saturday. On Sunday was driver, 5 wood, 5 wood and I was still 25 yards short of the green....

Last years meet at Cooden was pretty horrific. A storm was forecast but it only started to rain for our group on the 10th tee. within minutes there were puddles everywhere and it was peeing down in biblical proportions. my trolley battery packed up after 12 holes and we were soaked and cold. However, unlike some of the wimps, we saw it through to the bitter end whilst others , on buggies (not us) drove rapidly into the warmth of the clubhouse!

Forum meet at Craigielaw a few years ago, organised by JF and Mike was at it also. It started brightly and we were in shirt sleeves, by the 14th it was driving sleet and large hail stones.
All the soft west coast lads ran for cover whilst our group played to the finish.
We did spend a good ten minutes hiding behind our bags when the hail started, it was as big as golf balls and hurt a little.

And very warm it was too......:D

For me, it would be a toss up between the 4 holes I played at Woodhall Spa during the Old Farts v Whippersnappers match a few years ago, or last years Seniors Open at Pyecombe.
Woodhall Spa I remember I was playing Paul Nash, who was 4 up as we got to the short par 3 5th.
He proceeded to put his tee shot to about 2 feet, at which point I promptly put my club back in the bag, shook his hand and walked in.

Semifinal of the matchplay doubles at my first club
Light rain at the start that progressed to heavy rain that progressed to hail, then sleet, then snow....all this with a 20-30mph wind......
As it was the last day we could play it and if we didn't the tie would be decided by. Coin toss we kept going.
Lost on the 22nd - 1 1\2 miles from the clubhouse - the most miserable walk ever.......
From halfway round, water was running from the brim of my cap onto the back of the ball when I as putting.....at least I knew my yes were over the ball..

Played in heavy rainstorms & awfy windy and also temps down below 0, flooded greens etc and didn't think of stopping

Played 2 years ago with temp touching 40 and 80% humidity with zero wind, jeez that was tough. One of the 4-ball had to stop playing and take shelter, the rest of us just got more & more lethargic as the round went on. My tee shots barely making carries that would normally be well in range, concentration wanders, no energy and could literally wring the sweat from my cap

I remember thinking from the 14th tee onwards that I just wanted to get through it & I'm someone who loves my golf & wouldn't dream of wishing it away

up there would have to be SI 1 at Glasgow Gails last year, Snow, Hail, Rain and wind so strong none of our drives went more than 100 yards.

Morning slab, not a cloud in sight at the moment.

I know this thread is about worst weather but the last time I played in Mauritius it was About 30 degrees and gorgeous a bit warm but gorgeous. I was sweating like a pig.
The next round after that was about 0 degrees, with a wind chill of - summat. it was flippin horrendous, snot running down my nose and coughing my lungs up.
Oh that day was fun.

Machrihanish Dunes, Saturday 26th January 2013 for my 40th birthday. The wind are rain was coming off the Atlantic almost horizontal. I remember that on a par 3, the ball seemed to move the same distance left to right the same distance as the hole itself.
We were the only ones on the course, the starter laughed at us going out, and laughed harder at us coming back in. Fair play to him, he had the open fire roaring for our return.
Cans of rum & coke kept us warm through the round, and I think they may have been used as ball markers at some point as they were the only things that did not get blown away.
Never been so wet in all my life....but a great day was had !

was thinking of going for a game this morning, but it is freezing here, 0 degrees, but feels like -6 according to the met office. Just been out with the dogs and my face is numb with the cold, felt more like -20!

Reluctantly giving it a miss.

Played in a winter Alliance meeting at Muirfield. Horizontal sleet for most of the round and 40mph winds.
About 80 entries, 7 finished 18 holes and I was second scratch with an 86.
An ex Muirfield captain congratulated me on my staying power and scoring, [I was a teenager then] and said that will probably be one of the best rounds of your life. He was right.

Heaviest rain I have ever played in was at St Mellion. Playing in a big corporate day on the Nicklaus course, the rain started around the 10th, gentle at first but then got heavier and heavier the further we went round.
Got to about the 15th and it was stair rods. I think it is the heaviest rain I have ever witnessed. No wind, it was just dropping as if somebody was tipping a bucket of water over you. We had to walk in. By the time we got back to our hotel rooms we were absolutely drenched.
I had a room overlooking the 18th green, which was completely flooded. It was that bad you had trouble distinguishing the green from the pond that sits next to it.
As I say, I think that is the heaviest rain I have ever witnessed. Certainly not experienced anything like it since.

The Hever castle open was pretty bad the year we played it. Not cold, but boy was it wet.
James had no umbrella or wets.

Gale force winds and hail around last Christmas at Lancaster. Absolutely brutal. Jacked in after 6 holes, worst conditions I've ever played in by far.

Morning, doing well I hope, I can well remember playing into high winds with a downpour thrown in & a chill factor, cant say I miss it!

Sundays round looks like it'll be a slog, new course only open 6 weeks and they're predicting temps to go a bit silly high, so I'll keep my fingers crossed for a spot of rain to calm things a wee bit

I bought a calloway rain jacket 18 months ago...I've only worn it twice!!

I'd forgotten about that one Chris! That was a crap day, although I seem to remember you played well.
And it was all rounded off with a near punch up in the clubhouse!!
No waterproofs or umbrella is just the way James rolls....
