Just had the worst golf practice day ive ever had.
Went up for about 3 hours, to do bunker shots, putting and range.
Did putting and bunkers in first hour which was fine, but then it all went downhill.
For 20 minutes it bucketed it down, leaving the range very wet. It did sry up, but from then on all the shots I was hitting were fat. I just couldn't hit a single shot ! I kept blaming it on the weather, but to be honest it was probably just my foul temper.
So my question for you is : what has your worst golfing experience/day ever been ? And how did you motivate yourself through it?
I could do with some motivation right now :(

I just put it down to one of those days, the golfing gods always bring us back to earth at some time mate.

Worst day, last year 28 over for eight holes with 3 pars thrown in.

Don't think i.ve ever driven the ball better for those holes, trouble was all the par 4's that needed anything less than a 6 iron for the 2nd shot was sh*nked.

walked off never been closer to giving up than then.

Only a game after all :)

This is where I impress on my pupils the importance of self analysis.
I think its important to know what makes the ball do what it does and how to fix your own faults.
eg
Knowing that topping the ball would be caused by a movement of the body too far forward at impact.
Then if you top, you know how to fix it.

If you're hitting bad shots and you dont know what causes it, you might as well go home, or struggle trying different things and maybe never find the cure.

This happens alot with the self taught golfers.

Get a video of your swing and pop it on youtube
:)

losing four balls off the 4th tee at Kilbirnie (solo round thank god) quite tight hole with OOB left and right. First 3 balls were off the heel of my 5 wood left into elephant grass and all lost. The panic attack started, in an attempt to not repeat the first three attempts my next shot can only be described as a very graceful cover drive, OOB right. Next shot was with my PW. Thank god i play cheap balls!

Mine was 2 weeks ago. I've only just got my first handicap and was playing in my first competition (medal). On a par 5 with OOB left and right I hit my first tee shot right and OOB. Second tee shot went left but we all thought it was ok. When we got up there we couldn't find it so off I trudged back to the tee with a ball and a 4 iron where the following fourball was waiting. As I walked back one of our group threw my first ball that went OOB back to me. On the tee hit my 4 iron OOB right then finally got my tee shot away. Ended up walking off with a 12 and went round in 3 figures for the first time in years.

Last Friday when Region3 came to visit.
Been playing really well recently...
Started with a blob, scored 1, blob, 1, blob, blob....
4 blobs in the first 6 holes - that's more than I'd had in the previous 10 rounds!!
After that I woke up and started playing, scored 26 points in the last 12 holes...!!

What changed - nothing that I could fathom..

My worst day was about 20yrs ago remember it to this day. A bunch of us from work had arranged a day out at Royal Lytham. Had a bit of brekkie. Then the next thing I knew, I started with the mother of a migrane. Spent the whole day or the best part of it lay down being sick etc.

Had to be a match in the Volvo with HTL where I got a dose of the shanks on the first and topped, shanked, sliced, fatted, thinned and hacked the other 17 holes. Think I made two other telling contributions all day. Never been so embarrased in my life. I've had nightmare range sessions but usually I either chip the balls so I get a positive feeling of club on ball before going or just leave them and come back another day

Don't remember the bad ones, only the few good ones. Mind you there is always a so called mate who tries to remind me ,don't you Smiffy:(

Played in a charity day at The Nevill in Tunbridge Wells about 6 weeks ago. Fourball team event and I was playing with two really good mates of mine plus a higher handicapper that I had never met before.
I love the course, the weather was perfect, and I was really looking forward to it.

Tee'd off the 10th, par 5 where I don't shot. I hit a "so so" drive down the left, my mates said "nice drive" but it wasn't. I knew I'd only just got away with it but accepted my luck. Stood over the ball for my 2nd shot, I was just knocking an easy 7 wood down for position as I knew I couldn't reach the green. I put the most god awful swing on it...it wasn't even a swing thinking about it. Ball came off the heel of the club, I swore it went between my legs and it ended up in the bushes behind me!......blob. Followed by another blob. Followed by a double bogie. I was playing crap, and the more I tried to put it right, the more it went wrong.
On the short par 4 17th, I hit a good drive and reasonable 2nd shot. Left myself just short of the green and decided to putt down the hill rather than risk a chip of the really short grass. Wasn't shotting but still felt confident of making par. Wrong. 4 putts later I walked off with another blob. Bloody hell.
The worst I had played for ages, I don't think I would have mustered up 20 points for the whole round. I felt gutted. It had cost me £65.00 to enter as well. I consoled myself with the knowledge that it had all been for charity.
:(

I've had days where the golf ball could have beeen the size of a football and i'd still have missed the thing.

Been playing every week for 18 months, and a decent number of range sessions too. No matter how badly i've played, there's not been a single one that I haven't enjoyed.

There's been times where i've felt like going home after 9, but the back 9 has always provided some positives.

I've said it before, and i'll say it again. Look at how many people have a shocking front 9, play with a free mind and then perform well on the back 9. If you can start a round in that 'care-free' mindset, you'll put together a score.

Mine was yesterday (Wednesday) 18pts in 18 holes :-) Started really well Par/par/ par/ bogey = 10pts in four holes. then my world fell apart..7 straight blobs..next point on 12th UGH!!!, then a series of 1 pointers, felt like walking in, I'd also lost four balls,(lakeballs ) and it was starting to rain, but I kept going , the company was good, and my playing partners kept my spirits up..It was a weekly society match and I seem to have set a new record for consecative blobs.. Ah well there's always the next time, it can only get better..I hope mmm
