This came to mind after I was practicing on the range today. It was a little bit overcast:rolleyes:. Halfway through, the storm began. Heavy rain mixed with hail and 30 mile an hour winds. I thought to myself "I'll take cover under some trees until it dies down. " then the thunder and lightning began . This is when I decided to call it a day !

So, what was the worst conditions you have ever played in ?

Played in a roll up friendly. Thunderstorm and the green was flooded and unplayable in minutes. I just walked in. Wasn't going to hang about and wait for it to drain and I don't stay on a course in lightning anymore.

4 of us out on a friendly knock about......drizzling from the 1st tee, after about an hour it was chucking it down, sheltered in trees "for a few mins".....about 40 mins later we were still there. No-one behind us and we were in no rush. Carried on when it calmed down a bit and eventually finished the round.....soaked

Wednesday 28th Dec 2011 at Leven Links!!!

Will never forget it, gale force winds, even closed Forth Road Bridge. Was unbelievable, blew my Tammy off my head and blowing power caddys with cart bags over. The par 5 6th, I flushed my Driver then 3 wood, 3 iron, 3 iron and then was short with a full 6 iron

Was 12 hardy souls that day (or madmen)!

Played winter before last in an interclub comp and it was horrendous, played two par 4's around 420 yards almost drove one with a 3 wood turned and hit driver 4i 4i  110yards with a 4i magic, plus it was absolutely lashing it down for the first 9.

While playing my weekly Comp the rain was terrible. The wind was horrific. But I shot 38 points and won the comp!

Played a few 'challenging' rounds in Scotland and a couple where I've travelled up the night before to play. Once, at The Shire London (love that place) the 4 of us were the only ones brave/stupid enough to venture onto the course. Once, at St Andrews New, the last par 3 (14 from memory) was playing more than a Driver rather than the 9i or PW it normally plays and the rain was horizontal!

championship tees- waited ages to play a comp from them- strong winds (bag fell over everytime I had it standing up) rain got so heavy you couldnt see the green from halfway down the fairway. Marshal eventually drove out to tell us to get in as the course is now officially closed

I play til they throw me off
Newbattle last July - chucking it down, they were squeegying the greens and I came third. then i changed clothes - whole lot, top to bottom, and went out and played at home course and won the medal.

Whitekirk earlier this year it was blowing a hoolie - but no rain (one drove while the other 3 held onto the trolleys)

Eyemouth last June - they sounded the hooter when I was on the 4th to close the course - was soaked thro

love it - bring on the scottish summer! ;)

3rd January this year at De Vere in Blackpool.

Wind was easily 35mph at least. Hit a 3 wood over 340 yards off the tee with it behind and then my 2 hybrid 118 yards, full bore, into it. GPS confirmed :whoo:

Was absolutely stupid and we only met one other group of idiots out on the course.

To top it all there was a hailstorm when we were on a par 3 tee. Hid under the trees and then sized up our shot to the "white" :)

Never will I play if it's that bad again.

Last October in Volvo Matchplay Scottish Final at Kilmarnock Barrassie. I was in last group out. It took 6.5hrs, wind and driving rain and up to 8inches on some greens. Qualified for Portugal though with a mighty pairs score of 34pts!!!

Also had to walk in from 12th of Old Course before. I was gutted but so wet & windy that driver was going less than 150yds and couldn't hold on to clubs any more

Wind wise, bamburgh last year. Wind strong enough to bunt your golf bag 50 yards down the fairway. Rain wise, who knows. I have played in biblical rain before now.

Yesterday!! Saunton 36 hole open, constant rain and strong blustery winds, non stop all day. Absolutely drenched in the morning, shower and change into dry clothes then back out again in the afternoon. I think less than half of the 144 players managed to finish the two rounds. I've played 18 holes in those conditions before but never 36.

Some nasty conditions through the years but it's the fog that gets me over all (erm snow etc also). This dropped on us at Eyemouth last week.

Every time I'm near Smiffy it rains, or sleets, or there's fog, or rain, or it's blowing a gale, or it's raining, or there's wind and rain and sleet together...... or rain.

play on an extremely winding links so not unusual to have a driver out on a long par three during winter but i actually hit a shot backwards! wind was gale wouldn't normally have played but i really was in the mood 60 yards out ball tee'd up on some long grass skied it and the wind blew it back at me flew just over my head and landed behind me. would have annoyed me if it wasn't so cool!

Played at Dunbar in Scotland many years ago. It was so windy we had to walk in after 13, impossible to carry on.
Spey Valley wasn't fun the year before last. It was sleeting on the first tee and never let up all the way round. Great course, great company....but I have never (ever) been so miserable on a golf course in my life. Absolutely freezing, sodden, just didn't want to be there.
Princes the year before last in a charity Pro-Am. Bloody wind again. Robert Rock hit driver, 3 wood, 3 wood to a par 5 and still came up short. When it gets like that you know you're in trouble.

Once, at St Andrews New, the last par 3 (14 from memory) was playing more than a Driver rather than the 9i or PW it normally plays and the rain was horizontal!

My worst was at The New too. Friday in June, we went out at 12 noon, and there was nobody on the course. 40mph wind showing on the clubhouse wind meter, but the pro told us that didn't capture the wind higher up.

Playing with a 1 handicap and the other two of us were 9s.

1 handicap hit 2 1 irons (OK, it was a few years ago) at the first and was still short. We all hit driver at a 180 yard pr-3 and were short, I had the only birdie of the day, a driver, 3 wood and 4 iron to reach a 485 years par 5. The back 9 was playing downwind, so everything was racing through the green, 3 wood and 7 iron to a par 5 etc.

The pro in the shop was from NI, like me, and after we came in, he said 'Youse lot are f***ing made". He wasn't far wrong.
