Woods out of The Open

Just goes to show how time and the game moves on. This post 2 - 3 years ago would've been met with comments along the lines of 'won't be the same without him'; 'the winner will always have "But Tiger wasn't playing" hanging over him'. Now my first thoughts were so what? The rise to the top of the game of Donald, Westwood, Kaymer, McIlroy, McDowell, and the emergence of other exciting young pros like Day, Schwartzel at al puts anything to do with Tiger in the shade IMO.

As an earlier post stated, hope he comes back to the game a more humble individual and starts to treat the game with a bit more respect. You never know, not being the biggest news story in town may make him open up more to the media and the fans and therefore maybe get a glimpse of a more 'human' Tiger Woods.

Personally I sincerely hope it isn't the end but it all depends on how fcuked the knee really is. Tiger is 35 so in golf terms he's not past it but it really does depend on how fcuked the knee really is.

Hopefully he'll get the right treatment and do the right rehab for it to fully recover and then hopefully he'll dump Sean Foley.

If he can recover and find a decent coach then I have no doubt he will be back up there competing in the majors. Talent like his doesn't just disappear.

In a funny way the injury could be a godsend as it will give him time to sort his head out and with a fixed knee and a fixed mind who knows what could happen.

Is it the end? It's too early to say for me. Let's see if he can get fit before we write him off.

I think he will be back, but I think that others have raised their game while he's been away. The days of Tiger's run away victories by 10 shots will be gone.

He is pretty much finished as the force in golf he was, he can still turn up and get top tens any time he wants but winning won't be easy.
With regard to Majors he'll have one last hurrah, bit like fat Jack at Augusta 86, that'll be it I think.

Still 15 majors would be a pretty good career!

Whilst it would be nice to see it's really not top of my list why I want to see him return. I've been taking golf seriously now for about 14 years and for most of that time Tiger has been the standout player on the planet, so far ahead of his peers that most weeks they were playing for 2nd place. All I really want to see him do is play exceptional golf. If he comes back more humble then great but I don't really want to be coming on here next year saying "I see Tiger missed the cut again but he spent an hour signing autographs". Anyone can sign an autograph, very few can play golf like Tiger.

a) the PGA's introduction of random drug testing
b) the arrest of his doctor (of HGH fame) or
c) that all athletes' bodies suffer tremendously if they have used illegal substances and then are forced to come off them resulting in repeating and new injuries.

Now I'm not saying any of the above are the case; merely stating a list of incidents and their coincidence with Woods' form.

Make of it what you will - but this unspoken story has been doing the rounds in the US press rooms for a few years now and maybe there's no smoke without fire but then again...

Would I be sorry if I never saw him play another shot? Not really. I've had to watch more of his shots than of any other golfer thanks to the blanket coverage (well, not that kind of 'blanket coverage' more's the pity) so I think I've had my fill. I'd be less bothered if he came back as long as the commentators didn't wet themselves over everything he does.

You've been banging this drum since the first time he quit playing post marriage break up and yet there is still nothing to back it up other than your rumours. If there was any element of doubt I'm sure the PGA would have "arranged" for him to be tested while he was still playing and had there been an issue then the story would have broken.

As always, you seem to think that a contrary view is worthy of your derision. As before, there have been articles written that support this view that have been previously linked to and I will make no effort to do your research for you. Your idea of 'arranged testing' and 'a story can only be true if it's broken' is startlingly naive.

However, as you are part of the Forum clique (an ever expanding section that are overly dominating this forum and thereby diminishing its value in my eyes), I will say no more.

I don't know why Dodger keeps replying to my posts though as I blocked him ages ago and have no idea what he says. But carry on with your oh-so-funny retorts that really add value to the forum if you don't mind them being wasted on me.
