On the 14th July I ordered a Ping G440 SFT 7 Wood.

Today still awaiting delivery!

Contacted American Golf Lincoln Golf Centre several times! They are STILL awaiting for an update from Ping!

Contacted Ping who refuse to discuss anything about the order. They won’t even confirm or deny that there’s a shortage of heads!

Appalling service that goes back to Ping! I’m not allowed to cancel the order and I’m £319 lighter!

Why can you not cancel the order? If the item hasn't been built then surely the no return on a custom club can't be enforced?

American Golf say once an order to Ping has been submitted, they cannot be cancelled. I’m now in touch with trading standards.

I would refer to if they gave you a time to expect the club. If they have not then it is a conversation to have with AG.

Looking at citizens advice they say the following;

If you want to cancel your order

You can cancel and ask for your money back if you don’t get the item either:

  • within 30 days of buying it
  • on the date you agreed with the seller - if it was essential to receive it by then (for example, for an event)
  • on the date of the second chance delivery you agreed with the seller

My friend ordered one though our Pro shop about the same time and is still waiting. The pro says it’s a problem with Ping not having the materials available to manufacture the clubs.

I don’t think it’s Ping thing, from what I’m told all manufacturers have been beaten by the current enthusiasm for 7 woods.
As for the OP, his contract is with AG. They are at fault for not advising of their poor stock status.

Unfortunately the way Ping work/ sell clubs. The person who owns the clubs is not the customer, it is the pro, shop, company that sells them. When my pro tried getting £15off me for sending the club back to have a weight refitted. I was livid. Let’s just say Ping don’t charge for refitting weights but it was a royal PITA chasing up my problem.
I think AG l have been a bit poor in this instance. For me, AG should of been able to give you a delivery date.
PS, the 7 wood is a thing of beauty.

I had a similar experience recently, having to wait a ridiculous three months for a 5-wood from Mizuno, again because the head was unavailable, despite it being a current line. Didn’t order through AG, but another well known and probably more respected retailer, and also had to pay up front.

Shocking service from the manufacturer.

I went through months of this with AG and Ping a few years ago after ordering custom fitted irons in store. I've copied and pasted below the final bit from my thread on the subject. My actions were based on what I learned from studying the Consumer Rights Act with verification from Trading Standards. I hope it provides some help...

After more than a week passed with no response from AG, having given them a 31 Jan delivery deadline, I emailed them again stating that I considered our contract at an end and posted a negative review on Trustpilot.
Within an hour of the review, I received a response, guaranteeing delivery within a week, but admitting that all the clubs hadn't actually arrived from Ping yet.
After a few days of pressing the frontline staff to escalate, the customer services manager contacted me.
After a further week of email arguments (they wouldn't phone me to have a conversation), during which various bits of consumer protection legislation were selectively misrepresented and misquoted at me, I spoke to Trading Standards. They confirmed the legal standpoint.
When you order any product in any physical store, even if it is customised, the trader is legally obliged to provide a delivery date. This can only be more than 30 days if the customer expressly agrees to it.
If you've made it clear to the trader that the product is required by a certain date and they miss it, then they have breached the contract and you can demand a refund.
Within 48 hours of mentioning Trading Standards and telling AG that I was initiating a Sec 75 claim through the bank, a full refund has hit my bank account.

I think it's across the board. Theres plenty of global issues causing club shortages, not least of all our orange friend :)
