I belong to a small 9 hole course near Bristol. Not long by any stretch but it suits me at present as i cant play every week and when i do play its relatively quiet so can get a game when i want. I got my handicap last year of 12 and have played in only 4 comps since then going up .1 and 3 in buffer. My regular playing partner joined this year and this weekend we put his 3 cards in and worked out he plays off 14. Saturday afternoon we decided to play 9 holes and as we were going out the handicap secretary asked could he join us which was no problem. What followed though was both me and my playing partner playing the best 9 holes weve ever played, he played 4 0ver gross and i played 1 under gross. So my playing partner looked a bit red faced at the end having just put in his 3 cards. The handicap secretary congratulated us both and said im sure youre handicaps will be coming down soon playing like that. Can a handicap be drastically reduced due to one good round?

He shouldn't be able to touch your handicap unless you are putting in a card during a qualifier / putting a supplementary in or during annual review - but I have no doubt some ignore the system.

Ok. The problem is i cant play in a lot of comps at present due to work and family commitments but have a few pencilled in for september but paranoid now that i wont hit buffer as the handicap sec will think were taking the mick.

Back in the day you would of been cut 3/4 shots by now! As the system is now there is nothing that can be done. You could always play a supplementary card of 2 if you feel the need but with cards in already you have fulfilled the requirements to keep active.
