i firmly believe the only time I can really judge my game against someone else is in matchplay.

Strokeplay it is just me vs the course and whatever anyone else does is inconsequential to my feelings towards the day.

If I play well and come last then I played well. And the reverse as in your case, unless you actually felt you played well for the conditions.
