Hi All,
I played the Dukes course at Woburn last Thursday (as did Rick so he can add his comments!) and was pleasantly surprised to see that it had improved since my last visit. It is an excellent course with the run of holes from the 2nd to the 7th being fantastic. My favourite hole is the par 4 4th. A brilliant par 4 uphill slight dogleg to the left which has a fantastic amphitheatre of trees that the ball never rises above.
Generally, the course was in brilliant condition with excellent, speedy greens and fairways that were the best I have seen for a long time.
The Dukes is a really good test of golf and in my view, the tee shot on most holes is the key to a good score. It is imperative on this tight, sweeping course to be in a good position after the first shot otherwise you are pretty much precluded from a par. The ability to hit a left to right tee shot is also useful on several holes, especially the closing ones.
In addition, the clubhouse has been given a facelift over the past two years. This was certainly needed as the old clubhouse was not great but the new one is stunning. A first class experience and a superb day out.
I highly recommend Woburn as a unique golfing destination as it has 3 courses on site, all of which are in the UK top 100.
