Well, we're moving onto ours from this weekend, for 2 months. Not sure how it's done on golf courses in the UK as never really played there, but here, it looks pretty hilarious. Monthly Medal on Friday just gone, and the amount of holes I had decent approaches come up just short, landing on the Winter green was unreal. Unfortunately, it's just a lot of sand and new grass at the minute, almost got to play it as a bunker shot.

My question is, when the courses are developing Winter greens, should they be made GUR? I'd have thought common sense would say yes... however my appeals to a couple of the Marshalls fell on fairly deaf ears.

You're moving onto winter greens when it's 80 degrees in the shade?!!!

Seriously, though, when we used to use temps (we haven't done for three or four years), if any work was being done on them by way of preparation, they would always be GUR.

they should be GUR, but ideally - like my course- they never ever ever use winter greens, if its really bad they close the course, and we have immaculate greens each year, theres a lot to be said for having people walking on greens during winter (not frost though)

The club is hosting a Volvo amateur championship next month, over three days so I think they want to have the greens in tip=top condition for that.

They did it for a 5 week period last year at the end of Summer, just to give the greens a chance to repair and regrow after the harsh weather. It makes sense and I see why they do it, but i'd have thought they'd make the area GUR while it was being developed.

I bet you the club, that "doesn't need the money," still don't lower the price on Green fees while they're offering a rection in the product on offer.

Can't turn it down though, gotta get out there and get amongst it haven't you?!

I resemble that remark Bob!!!!

I'm thinking Winter Greens should produce some low scores, lots of chip in opportunities and birdie central.

Obviously that optimism will be short lived once out on the course haha!

Apologies Whee. The remark wasn't aimed at you, you're not a knob :)
