Local pro shop persuaded me to try some Wilson Staff DX2 Soft balls this winter so I'm going to see how I get on with them.
I have found in previous years that I loose more balls in winter than I do in summer as they often bounce OOB or other unretrievable places due to frozen ground.
I just use whatever old balls I have with me. Mainly all bounce games in the winter so I am not too worried.
I do carry various coloured balls I've found for those frosty days.
Tend to go to AD333 or NXT S at this time of year as I'm a short hitter and the firmer balls do give me a few more yards than a premium ball and I can still be confident that they will hold greens. A little quick off the putter and wedges around the green but it's a small trade off.
Srixon Tri-Speed for me in the winter, it's a decent enough ball in general.
Although once the 3 remaining sleeves I have of them are gone I will be looking at the Vice Tour as an alternative. The Pro have seriously, seriously impressed me.
Generally just use any middle range decent condition ball.
i find some good balls during the year and they go in the yellow tees box. The minute the whites go in its pick ups time but they must be in decent nick as I've noticed black faced clubs woods/hybrids don't like bruised balls.
The theory is that golf balls become less resilient in cold conditions, so it is worth changing to a slightly softer ball in the Winter. A very good golfer I know uses Titleist Pro V1 balls in the Summer and Srixon Soft Feels in the Winter, and reckons that he gets the same amount of compression. The latter are also very much cheaper when balls quickly get muddy and scuffed up in Winter conditions.
I change to a much firmer ball. Prov1x to ad333. Backspin is a major issue once the greens soften up and this helps slightly plus I find the ad333 doesn't climb so much into the wind
What makes you say that? I use firmer balls (AD333 or NXTs) in winter as the greens are wet enough to hold these. Once we go back to firmer conditions in the spring I'll go back to a premium ball. Just what I prefer. Whether its right or not I don't know. I don't hit it very far and do feel the firmer balls give me a tad more distance
I played with 6 very different balls today, when in play they were all excellent, good off the driver, decent around the greens, they just weren't very leaf friendly, can you get leaf friendly balls :mmm:
