Windows 10

If you already have a licensed copy you can download either a bootable ISO or create a bootable USB by using their media creator tool.

If W10 is linked to your windows account it will validate and activate automatically.

If you still have your product key then it doesn't matter if its linked or not.

I confess, this worries me as I got the free upgrade from W7 to W10, and have no W10 discs or bootable media. I am sure my free upgrade wouldnt be valid now if I had to try and restart from W7 again.

You need to ensure that you just have the license number noted if you do not know how to find it just do a web search on how to.

It is very easy to get the DVD ( a copy ) without a product key.

Rather the other way round, get a DVD and no Key for a couple of quid

Surprising. Not seen many like that and I used to be a system builder. Usually it was keys because they are more plentiful and cheaper as no physical product and OEM rules become sketchier.

Add to that, I haven't looked for physical media as I can't remember the last time I actually built a system with an optical drive of any sort.

A bit of thread drift. I have resisted upgrading from Windows 10 to 11 because of (unsubstantiated) comments of issues with Windows 11. I’m now getting MS campaigns to upgrade, pushing connectivity improvements with IOS phones, tablets. I use my laptop mainly for email, browsing and Office 365 stuff. I don’t game. My wife and I have iPhones and we use an ipad.

Any recommendations?

I upgraded to W11 on my Zenbook probably a year ago and it's been absolutely fine. No issues whatsoever.

The early release issues that plagued W11 are largely all resolved.
Main issues were unexpected memory dumps, memory leakage (a La Windows Me), poor driver allocation but to name a few. I think the release in Jan/Feb last year sorted the last one which was the memory dumping.

It’s not high on my list of things to do but will probably install it at some point.

Wipe Windows and install Linux?

Just in time for Win12 to be announced! :ROFLMAO: It's never been on my 'must upgrade' list, even when Microsoft finally supported multi-tasking as DesqView had been doing that for a while - and GUIs were still in their infancy!
