Check this site out, just select englan from the top then look for the region you want and it will tell you everything you need to know. i use this site all the time i think its awesome. not only do you get the lowdown for the courses and course webs address but you get other players reports which is really helpful.www.uk-golfguide.com

It's not exactly close (about 30 mins drive away) but there is a decent 9 hole course at Penrith Golf Centre - http://www.penrithgolf.co.uk/course.php. I stopped nr Windermere a few months ago and couldn't find a 9-holer any closer. If you get time you should definitely play Windermere or Silverdale though - both cracking courses.
